Anyone out there on the list knowledgeable about time release meds? I thought

they were a no-no for us but don't remember why. If they are not for us, why

is this working so well for ?

I do have diabetes and take metformin (generic form of glucophage).

I talked to the drug manufacture about the XR because I just didn't

feel like it was working for me after my RNY and they (the drug

representative) told me that this drug is NOT for those of us who

have had gastric bypass- it just does not work for us. It is

designed to be absorbed by the part of us that is unhooked. You

might want to check with Bristol Myer Squibb, there will be an 800 in

the junk that comes with you meds. See if they tell you the same

thing.

I have been following the post on Hypoglycemia and I thought to share

what helped me tremendously. My Endocrinologist thinks Hypoglycemia

is precursor to diabetic. So, he prescribed GlucophageXR( Time

Release) for me.

It might be working for her because she may not need the entire dosage to

fix her problem and what is getting released is just enough to do it's job.

But yes, typically the extended release tablets have been known to go into

the toilet because they are not absorbed very well.

Carol,

My personal opinion is that it's all pretty hit or miss. Maybe the

time-released isn't doing exactly what it's supposed to do, but somehow

delivering a good dosage in it's trip.

Also, I tend to take meds on " top " of food. So a time-release pill does

have some time to dissolve and do it's thing on it's " fantastic voyage. "

I think the point made earlier, is that the effects of time-release for us

are FAR less predictable than your average, unaltered human being.

Sometimes they deliver the goods, sometimes they don't.
