Open RNY at age 67 plus 8 months; eighteen months out and down from 325

to 201.

There's a Yahoo group for those over 50 who have had or are

contemplating WLS surgery (contact boomasmom@...).

The doctor who originally developed this surgery said up to age 70 -- I

think that was on the ASBS site. (Dr Mason). I know there are several

folks out there who had surgery when they were older than I am.

The individual's physical health is a factor as is finding a doctor who

is willing to operate. I was too old for the first doctor I contacted--

bet his stats are marvelous.

(nasty smirk)

It really is a very individual thing, whether you feel you can do this

at a mature age. Personally, I honestly feel I have a good twenty years

ahead of me ( " good " in the sense of a goodly amount and also in the

sense of being healthier). Before surgery I was told five years, if I

was lucky.

No HBP medications, fewer pain meds, and not only can I walk some but I

can climb stairs (one at a time, yes, but all by myself!) Life is SO

much better. I have CFS/Fibromyalgia so I will never be " normal "

(whatever that is), but just to be better is a joy.

I rarely post but when I do...
