Guest guest
Tara, I think the problem is that since our duodenum is bypassed, we just don't absorb much iron. Can you get a referral to a hematologist? My ferritin was low and he did some more extensive tests and found out the red blood cells being produced were too small and shaped funny. With ferritin that low, it's going to be a long shot pulling it up with a supplement and not an infusion. The infusion is an easy thing. The only iron they will prescribe is the one that was mentioned in here that dont work well. > Tara > > >

I take B 12 shots every 2 weeks to keep it there, but I am distal. You might want to consider a monthly shot. I would be concerned about ferritin if I were you. Your ferritin is your warehouse for iron. Your warehouse is almost empty. My ferritin got down to 9, so I am getting iron injections now. I have gotten them weekly for about 4 1/2 months now. I had labs drawn at the beginning of this month and my ferritin is up to 46. I am going to try getting them every 2 weeks now and see if it holds. If you go the route of iron injections, be sure the person knows how to give them with a good z track technique or you will get nasty stains under the skin in the area of the injection that doesn't go away.
