Guest guest
For me, I just need to think about how miserable I feel when I'm sick. Between my fear of illness and my fear of ending up in the ER, I'm very good about not overindulging in sweets and nuts :-). Guest guest
Annie, I'm no monk. I have ended up with partial bowel obstructions to over indulging. Some days I am good, others not so much. " I can't quit you " comes to mind when it comes to nuts, honey and dates. Misty- I am so tired with the addict attitude with these items. Now, since I make coconut yogurt I have honey and dates in the house and it is like beyond forbidden. Have you ever made spiced nuts and stuffed dates. Whoa! beyond delicious I loose all sense of proportion I inhabit a human shell. My hubby tells me I don't eat " that much " but that same " that much " gives me such a tummy ache and the runs that you would think I learn.. Having it in the house out of sight is a true excersize in I don't even know what to call it and at times I cave. They should just usher me to a clinic to give me a fix.. like seriously. In mourning full of loosing laughter with my fellows over the insanity of this addiction.. Jodi > > This idea of a nut-addict group made me smile. Guest guest
LOL-- I'm just VAIN!!! If I ate all the nuts and sweets I ever wanted I'm afraid I would be wider than I am tall. But I am also afraid of a belly ache from too much too. PJ > > > > This idea of a nut-addict group made me smile. Guest guest
My only trick is to keep it completely out of my house. I have a Whole Foods across the street from where I work so I have to be careful or I'm over there everyday getting almond butter to mix with dried shredded coconut and honey. I only buy enough for one serving, but doing it everyday messes me up. I've been good this week so far. I wish I had enough self control to hide my honey behind something else. That addict part of my brain knows where it is. Your suggestions are really good though!!! Guest guest
I have the feeling that being sick, or only the fear of being sick is a constant stress for us. Add to this the fact that I'm constantly thinking about what I could eat the next meal that won't hurt me, I end up thinking about food way too much in a day (compared to healthy people...). I don't miss non-scd cake, ice cream, chocolate that much. But once in while I crave so much for comfort food (sweet, fat or worse, both) that I totally overindulge them. I'm pretty sure I'm eating my stress then. I remember another trick. When I get home late (8pm) after workout and I haven't eaten yet, I'm starving so much that I could emptied the fridge. I drink half a litre of water and eat half a pealed cucumber. That's really efficient to calm down hunger and give me time to cook something healthy. And even if cucumber could be considered as an advanced food, it always go through me well. > > > > > Maybe we could share our tricks to avoid cravings or to have a better control on portions and avoid excess ? >
Guest guest
For me, it's not about overindulging in a certain type of food, but just having to be really careful about how much I eat at any one time of anything. I have to eat very small meals and usually stop when I'm just close to full--if I eat more than that, I'll feel yucky, sometimes for days. SO, what I find is helpful is having something sweet to drink if I'm really wanting to eat more. I'll have some diluted juice or (back when my tummy was handling it) a diet soda (one can allowed per week). This usually helps. Self-control is hard, even when we have fear of symptoms on our side! > > > > > > > > Maybe we could share our tricks to avoid cravings or to have a better control on portions and avoid excess ? > > >
