Guest guest
Matt, there is an old country song called "Happiness is Lubbock, Texas in my Rearview Mirror." I'm sure feels the same about leaving rehab. No matter how much hospital care is needed, going home brightens almost everyone's spirits. When you are dealing with the home health team, be respectful but assertive. You know ; you can advise them on the best ways to approach her, assist her in moving, etc. It may take a little time for her to feel comfortable with the staff, but if a reasonable amount of time passes & she is not comfortable with someone, you may need to ask for someone else. It doesn't mean they are incompetent or mean; just not a good match. The first 2 home health aides my mom had were very nice & seemed to know their stuff, but they couldn't get her to do anything--check her own blood sugar, shower, exercises. Then came Shelita, & from day one my mom would do anything she asked. A couple of months later, when Mom was at my house & with a different agency, Shelita came by to visit on her own time. Mom lit up with joy. You might not be that lucky, but you do need good personality matches. Sorry to ramble on; I'm sure you get what I'm trying to say! Got her home and she ate lunch and her dinner. I will manage to get the weight back on her somehow. (While at rehab she lost 10 pounds dropping her already low weight to 88 pounds). She also seems happier being home, although we now have to use the wheelchair. I am hopeful that she will eventually gain back some of the mobility that she has lost. Over the next several weeks she will have PT, OT and ST coming to the house along with some home help. I have to get added help for my return to work at school in Sept. I want to thank each and everyone of you for keeping us in your prayers and for the good information you have given me. I wish you all continued good health. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers. Matt The New Busy is not the old busy. Search, chat and e-mail from your inbox. Get started. Guest guest
Thanks. I know exactly what you mean, here were a few at the rehab that she connected with while others she just refused their help. I am now actively searching for a good match for home. Hope all are as well as they can be.
