Hey , it's hard to tell you what you should expect because I

don't know what exactly your surgery is. I got genioplasty and upper

jaw surgery and could talk basically by day 2...however I'm only in

week 3 and i'm still on a soft food/liquid diet. It's not so bad though

because I basically purée everything, so i'm definitely not starving

and I've only lost about 3 pounds. Most of my swelling is gone already

too!

,

You're right. Recovery time differs based on the patient and type of

surgery. I'm 4 weeks post-op and will be wired/splinted for a total

of 8 weeks. 2 weeks after my wires and splint are removed, my

skeletal wires come out. So, I know I won't even *begin* to heal

completely until at least the 10 week mark. I'm expecting to have

swelling and numbness for up to 4 months, if I'm lucky. Honestly,

when you look at the big picture, I probably won't be eating like I

was pre-surgery for at least 4 or 5 months. And I *know* I won't be

talking properly until at least the wires/splint are taken out after 2

months - probably longer while I work the muscle and get my jaw back

into shape. Sorry, I'm rambling. :) The truth is, everyone is

different. I'm just thinking it through for myself.

Take care,

Carol
