Guest guest
Alyssa I go on clear liquids fairly often, so have plenty of experience, unfortunately [sigh]. And because I’m so sensitive to fiber I have to carefully strain my homemade juices on a routine basis. When it comes to straining chicken broth, I run it through a colander first to remove the bigger particles, then I switch to a finer-mesh hand-held strainer that I support over a bowl. The strainer probably holds two cups of liquid, so it isn’t a small one. The broth doesn’t have to be super clear, just relatively particle-free. My gastroenterologist told me early on that it would work even if I just strained it through a colander once to remove most of the solids, but my upper GI is happier if I strain it once through a finer-mesh strainer. Fruit juices, on the other hand, I strain two or three times to remove the fiber. I go ahead and juice normally, letting the liquid fall into a measuring cup or bowl. Then I strain it through 2 different sized mesh hand-held strainers, one finer than the other one. I transfer from one measuring cup to another (usually a 4-cup measuring size just to make it easier to support the strainer.) I’ve never paid attention to the mesh size, just looked at it to decide one was finer than the other. I only use apple juice when my digestion calls for clear liquids (per my doctor), and I do strain it 3 times, so it is fairly clear. Plus I dilute the juices by 400% (or more sometimes) so the juice ends up quite clear. I get the hand-held strainers at a kitchen specialty store. Local stores rarely have more than one type of hand-held strainer, and the mesh isn’t small enough. Kim M. Any other suggestions? 3) If I were to juice something myself, how would I filter THAT so it's clear? Is that even something I could drink for the prep day? Thanks guys! Cheers!
