Guest guest
1 let me introduce myself.....I have been pretty much lurking on the board for the past few years...2 to be exact. I had laproscopic roux en y on Sept 7, 2001, so I will be 2 years out in a few short weeks. WOW how time flies. I started at 289 and 5'2 " which gives me a bmi of about 53. WOW - Super Morbidly Obese - YUCK! Currently I am 143 and still 5'2 " but somehow give the appearance of being shorter than I was when I was 289. This is especially evident in pants as now when I get petite length they are perfect where before they were too short -- go figure. Recently, I have realized that I can eat EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. I don't dump, as I have never really found my threshold for sugar and don't want to. I have also realized that I lost the weight not because I found a way of eating, but because I ate small portions of everything. I struggle with 5 lbs - going up and down and not even understanding how I do it. Last week, I decided enough was enough and I actually read the South Beach Diet and decided that this is something I could live with forever & this is also similar to the way we probably should be eating anyway. Lean Protein w/good carbs and little to no sugar. So far, so good. I have lost 7 lbs....and I feel great! I thought I would be craving bread or sugar, but I am actually just wanting fruit right now. I can start adding that back next week. Wahoo! So, to answer your question...the idea of diet makes me sick! I thought I would never have to think about that again. The fact is, I don't. Eating needs to be a total lifestyle change....not a new diet every Monday. I needed to adopt a way of eating...and stick with it...so what if 1 night I have a bite of dessert...I will have eaten healthy all day & will eat healthy all day the next day -- it's all about being " good " 98 percent of the time. ilene post op - sept 7, 2001 lap rny dr. wayne english - florida medical center 289 (bmi 53)/143 (bmi 26.2) -- Still overweight, but not Super Morbidly Obese anymore! There is a lot more to it, food lists, etc...there are lots of message boards & sites that offer more information. So far, I have been very happy with it & feel that it is going to help me maintain my weight loss. ilene post op - sept 7, 2001 lap rny dr. wayne english - florida medical center 289 (bmi 53)/143 (bmi 26.2) -- Still overweight, but not Super Morbidly Obese anymore! Guest guest
Ilene Its so nice to see you posting here! You've been an inspiration to me for my whole journey. Congrats on the 7 lbs! I agree with you that we need to find a way of eating for the rest of our lives and not go thru that " diet " mentality that got us MO in the first place. It has to be a lifestyle change. Hope to see ya soon Sandy Boca Raton, FL postop ~ 03/27/02 265/
