Guest guest Posted July 9, 2005 Report Share Posted July 9, 2005 Sanya - Well, I'd be really pissed off if MY Surgeon let some amateur get involved in my care without my permission. You may have inadvertently allowed your OS to include this other person in your care when you first went to him though. The form you filled out on your first visit asked for your signature, to give your permission for your Surgeon to examine you, etc. Also, if you signed the consent form for your upcoming surgery, there is usually a line or two that states that you give your OS permission to include others of HIS choosing in your surgical care. Whenever I need to sign these consent forms, I always read them and make a copy for my records. If there is something stated that I don't agree with, I question it, and I NEVER sign it until my concerns are addressed./// I think the reason I am so strict about this is because I work in the medical profession.// You should address this issue DIRECTLY to your OS prior to your surgery. Good luck! ~~ Diane (Idaho) > I had a appointment to see my oral surgeon for a pre-surgical appt. > When the nurse called me back to the room, she told me we were going to > view a slideshow and she was bringing in the surgeon assistant...she > say's he always attend surgery with the OS. Guest guest Posted July 9, 2005 Report Share Posted July 9, 2005 Hello Diane, The surgery date is 7-25-05...I have to sign paperwork a couple of days prior to surgery, maybe I'll see that information. I forgot to add...I did see my OS the day of the pre-surg appt. he just popped his head inside the room while I was getting impressions... said hello, and joked with the surgeon assistant for a minute or two then off he went. I should have asked him then, but I got so wrapped up with the tecnicalities of the surgical procedure. Oh well I'll get back down to business on the 21s, that's when I sign all the paperwork admissions etc.... Guest guest Posted July 9, 2005 Report Share Posted July 9, 2005 Hello Derrick - How nice to hear from you! I haven't written to you in a while. I'm almost in braces; July 26th for spacers and ceramic brackets, and August 9th for spacers out, bands on molars, archwires on, and possibly power chains on the top. I went to my OMS this past Tuesday for my consult appointment and got some shocking news: he wants to do a LeFort in addition to the BSSO set-back for my underbite. He told me that I have Maxillary Hypoplasia which has caused a midface deficiency, so he would like me to let him perform Maxillary Advancement and also drop the maxilla down because my " resting smile " only shows my lower teeth. I'm not sure I will let him do it; I'm scared of having my maxilla separated from my skull!// I'm glad I have the OMS I have - he's been very understanding and supportive. And, I'm getting to know him as a person as well; you're right: it's important to know the person behind the surgical mask. Let me know how it's going, okay? ~~ Diane > hey there. .... > > i totally understand your anxiety regarding the person who will be > performing your surgery. i knew my surgeon, but didn't meet with him a > whole lot before i went under the knife. i never got to see his personality > and outlooks on life. .. which is something i like to do with anyone who > will be touching me. .. ahhahah ... yea know. ... but, i would straight up > ask the surgeon if he will be there or not. .. if not, and you're not > comfortable about it .. don't go. good luck! > >

color=#000099> & nbsp;
>
color=#000099>derrick
>
>
src= " http://www.educ.sfu.ca/pdp/admissions/content/general_information /images/sfu.jpg " > width=425 align=bottom>

> >

& gt;From: & quot;stylist998 & quot; > bigpapi27@s...
& gt;Reply-To: > orthognathicsurgerysupport
& gt;To: > orthognathicsurgerysupport
& gt;Subject: [Orthognathic > Surgery Support ] Who's doing the surgery...
& gt;Date: Sun, 10 Jul > 2005 00:17:17 -0000
& gt;
& gt;I had a appointment to see my oral > surgeon for a pre-surgical appt.
& gt;When the nurse called me back to the > room, she told me we were going to
& gt;view a slideshow and she was > bringing in the surgeon assistant...she
& gt;say's he always attend > surgery with the OS. Guest guest Posted July 9, 2005 Report Share Posted July 9, 2005 Yes this happened to me I felt like I'd just been seen naked. As I didn't see the assistant before surgery and then to be told after it wasn't just mine it was a little weird. But I think having had three there was one for both of my big ones. I feel okay about it, if my OS had run into an issue - got the runs;) there was an extra pair of skilled hands to finish.
