Guest guest
I thought today would be one of the worst in my life -- getting my little sweetie fitted for a Starband helmet. But it was really painless. She laughed the whole time and didn't seem to mind or notice the helmet at all. And she doesn't look too bad in it as I feared. However -- and this may be part of what everyone fears/hates the most -- as part of the fitting, we took her to lunch at a local mall so she could wear the helmet a while before a final check before we left the area (we live 2 hours away). In that one hour, I had a dozen people stare at her and one shop clerk ask what the helmet was for because she sees them all the time. Instead of the smiles and 'ohs and aws' I usually get, people would look at her and then look away and not make eye contact. I think I am going to decorate her helmet with something like " Temporarily Under Contruction " or " Crash Test Baby " which would probably prompt more people to ask about it than to look away. As for our ortho, she took her time, answered all our questions, and even gave us her home phone number to call after hours if anything comes up. She made it all so easy and stress free. Anyway, the countdown begins. Tomorrow we do 1 hr on 1 hr off. I'm just taking it one day at a time, which isn't unlike having a new first baby anyway. Guest guest
I am glad to hear that your fitting went so well. My girl got her STARband a week and a half ago and she has adjusted fine. Your concerns about the public are totally normal, my husband and I felt the same way. However, after being in public for a while people seem to be more interested than offensive. When some people act oddly I think it is more because they are uncertain of how to act than being rude. Putting some text on the helmet is a great idea. We put " Just fixin my flat " on the front. People read that and giggle. It gives us an opportunity to share about Plagio. Also, I made a little handout to give people so I don't have to keep repeating myself. It has proven helpful so far. Where did you get your STARband? I hope some of this helps, Des Zoey 8.5 months STARband 1/4/10 Auburn CA > > I thought today would be one of the worst in my life -- getting my little sweetie fitted for a Starband helmet. Guest guest
Glad to hear the fitting went well. My son is getting the DOC Band, he should have it in a couple of weeks. I'm also a little concerned of how people will be in public, but I'm going to decorate the helmet. I think I'm going to get the " Fixin my flat... " with the picture of a flat tire. Hopefully it will go well. I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end. > > I thought today would be one of the worst in my life -- getting my little sweetie fitted for a Starband helmet.
