Guest guest
Holly, I think this is wise in getting rid of any med. A nurse friend told me a few years ago, " cut the drug slowly enough that your body doesn't realize what you are doing " . I've found this a very good policy! I've seen a lot of people on the internet say that it's impossible to stop Zyrtec due to the side effects that occur (the main one being intense itching). I found an easy solution, simply wean yourself gradually. Cut the pill in half, and take 1/2 per day for a couple weeks. Then cut it in 1/4's and take 1/4 per day for a couple of weeks. Going cold turkey, I got very itchy by day 3. By decreasing gradually, I have no problems. I tend to go on and off Zyrtec due to it's wonderful (for me) side effect of increased hunger. If my appetite slacks, and I start to lose weight, I restart the Zyrtec. I know, not ideal, but since my allergist prescribes it for me to take year round, I don't worry TOO much about it.
