Guest guest
Going from 19mm to 7 is great. However it seems to me that the helmet was no longer effective and a new one was needed. His head had changed substantially in the 5 months. I suspect the band wasn't holding effectively, so not redirecting growth. A new band could help with the flatness in the back, but it depends how important this is to you. My daughter wore a band for brachy (flat in back) with very little asymmetry. She went from 96% to about 85%, which was very good. However her head shape is still not perfect, and I still notice it even though she is now 4 yrs old. Some people do get post-band correction, but there is no way to know if you'll be lucky in that way (we weren't). If you aren't happy with his head now, I would definitely consider getting a new band. Also given his current age, I would consider a docband (cranial tech) if possible. I haven't heard as many success stories with older babies and starbands. -christine sydney, 4yrs, starband grad > > Hello Everyone! > > I know I haven't posted on here as much as I would've liked to, but I've learned so much from reading everyones experiences and opinions, thanks so much for all the great info! Now here's another one for y'all to weigh in on... > > My son had sever plagio (19 mm) and started his Starband when he was 8.5 mos. After about 5 months of wearing it, he was down to 7 mm. Then everything stopped; over the next 3 months there was absolutely no change. He was gaining weight, hitting all his milestones, etc but there wasn't much happening in the head department. In the middle of Dec we decided we were done with the helmet (he was outgrowing it and there was potential for some negative effects) though there is still lots of correction left. The orthotist left the decision up to us and said there is an unexplainable possibility the head will self-correct without a helmet. > > Besides the 7mm of plagio left, his head is very flat in the back as well (that part never seemed to correct in all the time in the helmet?). So my question is...has this happened to anyone else? Did you notice marked improvement without a helmet? > > Thanks again for everyones help! > > Sincerely, > Farah > Mom to Khalid ~ 17mos > Starband Graduate...we think? >
