Guest guest
I think her head looks great. I see what you're seeing , but it is very mild and a band would never be reccomended at that stage, so I would not worry about needing a band. My son is about done with his band and his measurement is not even that low, but since he is now in the normal range, he will be done anytime now once he is outgrown the band. be assured that no one is going to notice anything about your babies head, you are going to scrutinize much more than anyone else, but its great that you are closely monitoring her and doing all that you can to help ! le From: Serenity <philoscript@...>Subject: Is it getting worse again?Plagiocephaly Date: Friday, February 5, 2010, 9:18 PM Hi,I want to say thank you for all of the help you all have provided. I've been looking back on photos from when my daughter was younger and truly notice a difference now in my daughter's head. However, I looked at recent pictures and it looks to me like the condition is relapsing despite my efforts. Based on the numbers, she's in the mild range (CVA 3.5mm), possibly moderate due to ear alignment (5.5mm off). My husband disagrees and refuses to band. Am I crazy? Do these photos look like she's improving or not? Her album is K in the photo gallery. I tried to provide good photos, but she no longer sits still.Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.PS- I'm the one that took things into my own hands and sought the care of a chiropractor for my daughter around 6 1/2 months when no physician would write a prescription. Also, based on previous numbers, the orthotist recommended not banding. Therefore, we have not banded her at this time.
Guest guest
Hi, I have extremely good eyes for this. I see a very tiny amount. I cannot see it getting worse again though. Maybe, you notice it more since the helmet has been off awhile. I doubt you could find an ortho who would agree to band or a physician who would write a prescription. If I were you, I would try an osteopath and aggressive repositioning. Most people may think it is too late for repositioning, but we tried it at 11.5 months while waiting for the helmet and I think it helped a very slight amount. I think as your daughter's hair thickens and her head grows, you won't notice it so much. I believe my toddler's head still looks a bit worse than your daughter's and we would not start a band where he is. Since he is already in the helmet, we are keeping it on. And we do alternative treatments. I am the main person who can still see my toddler's plagio. My older son's head is worse, but still very mild. I don't think he was a helmet candidate. For him, I only regret not doing more repositioning and trying alternative treatments younger. If you are truly feeling uneasy, you could consult with an ortho(s). If they refuse to band, then you know there is no choice and maybe you won't worry about it anymore. If they do offer to band, then you could reconsider. Guest guest
Hi, Sorry. I reread your post and it seems you never had a helmet. Still I think you could be seeing her head more as time goes by. I know this has happened to me. Now that I know all the effects of plagio/brachy, I see it much more in my boys and other kids. Guest guest
Hi, I can't see much from the pictures, but in deciding whether or not to band you need to consider how you will feel down the road if you don't do it. If you will constantly obsess or try to see if things look right, my advise is just get the helmet. My husband was VERY much against getting the helmet too but said he would go along if I wanted it (because I was so freaked out about her head!) But having the helmet isn't the traumatic experience we thought it would be. She's been in it for 5 weeks now and it isn't a big deal at all. The baby doesn't even notice it. (She's 6 1/2 months old.) And it hasn't stopped her from learning to crawl, which she does using the top of her head, crazy thing. As for going out in public, we went to a dinner party Saturday and a Superbowl party Sunday and for the people without kids it was no more foreign than a diaper and for those with kids, they had all heard of it and knew someone who had some kind of issue. I was amazed at how little it was noticed. My daughter is now at 3.4 mm CVA but I'm keeping her in the helmet until she's a zero, or as close to it as I can get because it will drive me crazy if I had the opportunity to do it, and didn't.
