Well I'm glad that my whiney post provided a good platform for a lot

of people to express their concerns. Sometimes I think we take a lot

of this orthognathic surgery process for granted or don't even think

about some aspects of it then when it hits us out of the blue we're

left in shock. Cyndy, I understand your parents but I understand even

more how it must make you feel. Perhaps you should sit down and talk

to them and tell them that even though on the surface you may change

a bit (some of us change less than others) you are still bonded to

them as only a daughter could be. You are and always will be their

daughter it's just that now you'll be more confident and in less pain

because you'll have a better functioning jaw. If it can make you feel

better, since my surgery everyone says I look even more like my

mother. People have always said that we looked almost like sisters

and now that I have more of a chin like she does I guess we do look

more alike. So you might end up looking even more like your folks!

And even though Aug 15th seems a long way away it will roll by

eventually I promise. In the mean time EAT, EAT and EAT for all of us

post-opers who are stuck on yucky liquid diets!!!

> Hi Everyone -

> I've really liked this thread - it's a very important part of this

whole process. I wanted to say that while I am looking forward to my

new look - I get the feeling that my parents especially are mourning

the possible loss/change of my old one. They are supportive - but

wary and a little sad that I might suddenly loose the connection to

other family members that they see on my face. (Did I say that

clearly ?)

> I got teased A LOT in school ( buck-tooth etc) and I've been so

ready for this for a long time - so I'm ready. (come on Aug 15th!!!)

But my family doesn't always see the issue, they mean well - but they

aren't in my shoes. Having been through one big change in the last 2

years (lost 100+ lbs) I've gotten a hard shell about being noticed -

who knows, I might just become an attention junkie and get me some

more surgery after this. (just kidding)
