They don't always.

But when they do, they're either to hold the wires or the elastics.

Some people have hooks the whole time they're in braces. Sometimes they

use the lugs you already have for the elastics. Sometimes they put

extra hooks in, to be able to arrange things the way they need be.

Mira, My OD called the hooks and wire the " just in case " Just in case

you have to be wired shut. In my case the first surgery all was well

the I had hardware failure and had to have asecond surgery 2 weeks

later, good thing I had the jsut in case wire because I had to be wire

shut. They really aren't bad at all. The first day you may had a

tender spot not unlike when you first had braces.
