Guest guest
Actually according to my doc some people do gain weight with effexor because it restores the appetite. They don't realize that the depression has been decreasing the appetite. Sometimes when we are depressed we eat when we are not hungry ... and then when the depression is not a problem the regular old appetite kicks in too. He says that some anti-depressants cause weight gain that way. Other people seem to lose weight on anti-depressants because they are no longer trying to get the endorphins from food. According to his research the two meds that seem to be definitely related to weight loss are the Welbutrin because it helps cravings and Topamax and they don't know why. His advice to me has always been from day one. ... whatever the anti-depressant I am on, the best supplement to go with it is exercise (walking outside the house) ... He drives me crazy with it. hehehehe. But it's the benefit of fresh air, sunlight on those affected by seasonal affective disorder, burning calories, reducing cravings, releasing endorphins and getting myself out of the house for those twenty minutes or more when I will not be eating. (Cant walk to the refrigerator when I am walking outside) He says that as the weather gets cooler the walking outside is better because we burn more calories trying to keep the body temp warm. Cold temps or not I increase metabolism. He wants me to walk outside because he also believes that nature is emotionally healing. (benefits you can't get quite the same on the treadmill etc.) More in next post B from NJ --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
