Hi Diane

Yes, it does rather sound like self-inflicted torture doesn't it.

Well you don't need to worry about hooks and surgical wires just yet.

First you need to get your braces on. When you get closer to surgery

they will change the regular wires you have in your braces to

surgical wires. These are basically thicker and sturdier wires that

they will need for during the surgery. Also closer to surgery they

will put hooks onto your teeth, as in connected to your brackets (i

think) it depends from person to person how many hooks they actually

put in. As far as I understand the hooks are either for wiring or for

connecting elastic bands which will hold your jaw together post

surgery, or something along those lines. Sorry, not too much of a

technical or medical explanation there. Moral of the story is that

you don't need to worry about them just yet but if you want to see

what they look like go to PHOTOS on this site and look for YANN's

photo album. He has a photo of his mouth with the hooks in.

Welcome on board and congratulations on taking the leap. I know it's

a difficult decision to make.
