Guest guest
I was in elastics for 20 weeks but then again I seem to be an unusual case. I didn't start chewing till about 2 months post op and then it was really soft stuff like oatmeal. I still can't eat anything chewy or hard, just can't do it and it hurts. I am almost 5 months post op. > Hey everyone, > I am 5 wks post op as of yesterday and haven't had another follow up > with my surgeon in a few weeks as he's out of town. Guest guest
5 months and still nothing chewy, ughh thats scary. Sorry you've had such a tough time. I certainly hope that it doesnt take that long usually. I've already lost 20 pounds and so could not afford to. I feel weak every time I get up. It's just so hard to get all the nutrition you need through liquids, yes I know it can be done, it's just frustrating and drives me crazy. I guess if the healing process is that long, I'll just learn to survive. Afterall I've made it this far. > > Hey everyone, > > I am 5 wks post op as of yesterday and haven't had another follow up > > with my surgeon in a few weeks as he's out of town. Guest guest
Hi Rina, I was allowed to start chewing 5 weeks post-op when my splint was removed. I've been banded since, but I take them off to eat. The first night I had meatloaf and mashed potatoes, but chewing was very awkward and sore. I'm on week 10 now and am doing a bit better - my record so far is rotisserie chicken, but chewing is still difficult and involves some pain. The worst part is that I keep biting my lower lip.. I guess it's cuz I'm not used to having a closed bite. I keep challenging myself though cuz I personally think it helps the healing. Last night I bit into soft bread just to keep moving forward and to prove that for once in my life, I can actually leave a normal bite print in a piece of bread. Guest guest
Yann, Your bread story made me smile, thank you. I've been kind of down all day. I guess I'd forgotten why I put myself in this horrible position. But, I just remembered - I want to have a sandwich and actually bite all the way through - leaving my teeth marks in the bread. Thanks ... I needed that. Carol > > Hey everyone, > > I am 5 wks post op as of yesterday and haven't had another follow > up > > with my surgeon in a few weeks as he's out of town.
