I had my lower advanced with no work to the upper. The actual surgery

was a piece of cake. I was prepared for the worst, and I got the best.

I had my surgery at 7:30am on Wednesday, and I was home by noon on

Thursday. The stay in the hospital was fantastic. My doctor is great,

and the staff was wonderful.

I was wired shut after my surgery, so the 1st few days home were a

little tough. It was very hard to eat (drink), and everyone was trying

to talk to me, which was nearly impossible being wired shut. After

about day 4 or 5, I was okay to be on my own. I was able to drink a

little better, and day by day, things just continued to get better.

I have been wired shut for 6 weeks, and I just got my wires cut this

past Monday. I will be getting my splint removed this coming Monday,

and my OS will release me into my Orthodontist's care from here on

out. I will see my OS in a month, and again in 6 months, but after

Monday, I am pretty much healed from the surgery.

There have been ups and downs throughout this entire process, but for

the most part, it has been a positive experience. Having this group to

talk to has proven to be very important. Your family and friends want

to be supportive, but they don't fully understand how this surgery

completely consumes your every thought (from months pre-op to months

post-op).

Please ask any specific questions you might have. We are all happy to

help as much as we can.
