Guest guest
Hi , I had a combined Le Fort one and two maxillary osteotomies, as well as having my nose lengthened etc. They also took a bone graft from my hip, which was very sore after wards I was confined to bed for 3 days! Not that I felt like getting out of bed anyway. My recovery has been one nightmare after the other. After the surgery my hair started falling out which has left me with four bald patches, hair is slowly growing back but not fast enough for me. My surgeon was very shocked to see this happening as he had never seen it before. He has put it down to stress if the surgery, limited blood supply to the skull for so long while he was " fixing " my nose lol. and my body's way of fighting back after being through so much. Then the scar on my hip opened because it was infected, it was not a pretty sight. And then the re-occuring infection. I was given the all clear to eat some " proper " food until the surgery on Wednesday but I am struggling to eat anything that needs chewing. I'm also working on the spatulas, I can't open my mouth very wide and my surgeon is concerned so I am have to work as hard as I can on the spatulas to see if it will help me open my mouth wider so far no good. Someimes I wonder if they know what pain is, I would like to see them after having the surgery. I am getting nervous all ready about Tuesday and Wednesday. Once I get to the hospital I will be ok! Guest guest
, I too longed for the day that I was allowed to chew again, but now that I am allowed to chew again for the time being I don't want to. It's not that I don't want to but it's still very sore and painfull. So I think I will stick to the soft stuff for now. My MF surgeon did say that he moved the jaw a lot so it will take some times to adjust to eating. You certainly do need a lot of patience with the surgery, but it is always hard to. Prior to my surgery I was told that I would have to take at least 6 weeks off work starting from when I was discharged from the hospital. But due to the complications 12 weeks later i'm still off work and have been signed off for a further 4 weeks and will probably be signed off more after that. They won't sign me back to work until the swelling/ infection etc have gone and that they are happy. I work in a children's day nursery caring for children 0-7 years so it's not worth taking the risk. I also have a fever which can get very high at times which is worrying but it will all be over soon! I am still very weak following the surgery we're struggling to keep my iron levels up. They have been very low since the surgery. I needed several units of blood during/after the surgery, I lost a lot of blood during/ after surgery. --------------------------------- Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page
Guest guest
Hi Caboose, I haven't tried to chew a french fry yet i'm not that brave LOL! I have tried to eat a sandwich but didn't have much luck it was too painfull so I swapped it for some mashed potato. My upper lip is still very sore and tender even to touch so I still can't smile. My surgeon also thinks that I am having a relapse so we will need to talk about that on Tuesday to see if we will try elastics first to see if they help or if they will move my lower jaw when taking the plates out. At the moment I have a fever of 104 even with antibiotics, my mum is going to phone the Dr. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
, I was offline for a while - being a taxi-cab mom for my kids again; but now am back online for a few minutes reading and catching up. You've got a really great attitude for all you've been through. I'm sure that's how you've gotten through everything that you already have. I've been complaining about my post-op problems and I'm only 5 weeks (tomorrow is when it's officially 5 weeks, but figure I'm close enough to call it). Wow - 12 weeks of trouble for you is a very long time. I really hope this next surgery does it for you and gets you back on the road to recovery. I'll be thinking of you and praying that everything goes perfect, and that things will get easier for you very soon after. Take care, Judy
