Guest guest
My son was just evaluated today and it was recommended I get him fitted for a helmet. He was 11lb 10oz when he was born so of course has torticollis and now has a flat spot on his head. I hate the idea. Breaks my heart to think of people staring at him.I'm going to take him to CHOP in Phili, any recommended doctors? As a first time mom, this is just so hard, would love some comforting thoughts and advice
Guest guest
I know how you feel. My daughter had torticollis too, and now a pretty pronounced flat spot. She's been in her helmet just over 1 week now, and I'm getting used to it. The idea of it really broke my heart too, but I want to do what's best for her in the long run. I haven't been out in public with her too much yet, but people do stare and I just try not to look at anyone's faces to see their reactions. At least, that's how I'm dealing with it right now. It's hard right now but I suppose it will get easier. I just keep thinking that she's my beautiful little girl and she will be beautiful to me no matter what. Good luck with your son. > > My son was just evaluated today and it was recommended I get him fitted for a helmet. Guest guest
I'm a first time mom too and my daughter's been in her helmet for 6 weeks now. I agonized over getting the helmet. I agonized over the shape of her head. I agonized every time I had to lay the baby down on the floor, stroller, carseat, or crib. And I cried all week before she had her fitting. But then, after the helmet was on, all the anguish was over. I could relax for the first time in months knowing she was getting better. As for going out in public or around family or friends, I expected negative or sympathetic comments, but not once have I had any. Everyone knows how kids skulls can be funny shaped at birth so when I tell them the helmet just helps round it out, they see it as no big deal and aren't judgemental at all. In fact, the most surprising thing is how many people tell me they have a flat spot they are self conscience about and wished theirs had been fixed but that it was " a different time " or whatever and helmets weren't available. As for dreading the lack of head snuggle time, I haven't found that to be too bad either. I just snuggle with the baby's tummy instead . You are doing the right thing and I promise, if you are like me, what you are going through now is much worse than dealing with the helmet. Best of Luck! > > My son was just evaluated today and it was recommended I get him fitted for a helmet.
