Guest guest
Hi Everyone,I have been on SCD for about 3 and 1/2 years now and was doing really well until the past couple of months when I have been in a flare. I believe I was perhaps eating too many advanced foods in a day and increased hours and stress at work may have contributed. However, I also got some advice from 2 so called "experts on SCD" that may have led me astray.Since I learned how to follow this diet correctly from all of the generous people on this list serve, I feel I really need to come back and ask your opinion on the advice I received. And also check in about the legality of some supplements I have been taking. 1) About 6 months ago I started taking Epicor (please see link below for ingredients) because the environmental doc who told me about SCD told me she had checked with the SCD expert at a DAN doctors conference and been told that it would be fine for me while on SCD. Now I am questioning whether it might have contributed to the flare. I am guessing it is illegal, but does anyone have an opinion on it?http://www.iherb.com/Healthy-Origins-EpiCor-500-mg-150-Capsules/8352?at=0 2) This week I saw a nutritionist who supposedly knows SCD well. I was especially happy because I was in a flare so I thought it would be great. She was recommended by my primary care doc who has tried SCD herself. The nutritionist told me to take Kombu and Nori seaweed every day. I told her it was illegal and she insisted that on an earlier form of the diet it was allowed. I looked it up when I got home and it's loaded with polysaccharides, so I didn't take it. I did take the form of S Boulardii she recommended: Florastor: Ingredients: S boulardii 250 mg and lactose 33 mg. I told her the lactose was illegal and she said it would be eaten by the S Boulardii. I took it twice and got an awful stomach ache, so discontinued and ordered the legal one from GI Pro health. I am curious to see if the one she ordered was legal though, for future reference. She also recommended PB8-- a totally illegal probiotic that has lots of strains and maltodextrin. I of course did not take that. I am on day 4 of the intro diet now-----long story but it's the third time in about 2 months because I didn't really get it right the last 2 times for various reasons. I am staying home and resting and my tummy if feeling a bit better. I think the combination of work, stress and tummy problems has created some exhaustion and I need to give in and just rest up. It is a bit discouraging to have been doing so well and to find myself here again. I have been reading people's posts about flares though and realize that this is just part of the process for people with gut disorders. We do have set backs and we have to do all we know about SCD to get out of them.I guess I'd like to warn people about "experts" on SCD who may be out in the medical field. So far, I've not met anyone who understands what fanatical adherence means. And I want to thank the incredible people on this list for your advice and support over the years. I don't post often and lately I save the posts and read them as I need info. I am so grateful to know that you are there. Thank you for your opinion on these supplementsTake careJeanineSCD 31/2 yearsceliac
