Hi all.

My name is Doug Edelman and I just passed my 2 year anniversary of

RNY surgery on 8/13. I've been a member of obesityhelp.com since 6

months pre-op, and just learned of this group from a member who

replied to a post of mine.

I'm not going to bore you with a long history of the last 2 years but

to get acquainted here's a brief synopsis:

Lap RNY 8/13/01 by Drs de la Torre and in St Louis, MO area.

Had bleeding requiring open correction 12 hrs later. Then a week

later developed a leak, requiring 6 weeks on TPN and NPO. Fun Fun!

At 9 months out, developed hernia and gallbladder problem. May of 02

had hernia repair, cholecystectomy and panniculectomy (17 lbs of skin

removed) all in one shot. It was not an easy year. BUT in that time

I went from 385 to 243. Never regretted choice to have the surgery.

In the 2nd year I'm suspecting my stoma's stretched (probably my

fault for returning to a bad Mountain Dew habit when I started a new

job last October. I " flatten " it first by shaking and bleeding gas

several times before drinking... but I know I shouldn't be drinking

carbonated drinks.) At any rate, now I can eat way more than I think

I should be able to, since food seems to pass right out of the pouch

thru the stoma. I put 20 lbs back on over the last 9 months. I'm

giving up the Dew, and starting to exercise to try to get back on

track.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! See the 1 year before/after
