You may just need to get a water pic with a tounge cleaning brush.

The bad smells are usually at the " other " end.

Probably just a byproduct of fat burning....excretion of keytones by

breathing....I believe a 12-18 year old single malt scotch will mask

the smell....one shot with your Calcium. Should also help

absorbtion....

Let me know.

If you are doing real good at eating a high protien low carb diet,

you may be in ketosis, and that causes a smelly breath. The best

thing is to drink alot of water to flush the byproducts out of the

system.

Pammi,

Forgot about the ketosis, I remember that now, (mental block).

Keeping your teeth and tounge clean will help, but it does take

awhile for the ketones to go away.

Hi Anita,

If your daughter still has a splint in, that could be the problem.

Food gets under it, and it's hard to clean out. I've heard stories

of pretty bad breath on the day people have to have it taken out.

You do want to make sure it's not a sign of infection, so I hope

you've also called the surgeon.

One thing I used post-op was a product called Amosan. It's a powder

you mix up with water. Good for irritated tissues in the mouth and

it tastes good (minty). Might help, I don't know.

Hi Anita,

My throat was sore for about a week too. I found sipping icy cold

water helped. After a week, I started dairy foods, so any variety of

ice cream was great!

Is the nose constantly bleeding? That might be a problem you should

mention to the surgeon. She should be careful cleaning her nose if

she's doing that (I was shown how, in the hospital, with qtips).

One of the things she needs to understand is that barely eating is

going to make her feel much worse, not better. She really needs to

pack that food in!

Hope that helps. Hang in there!

> Well she barely eats. Seriously! I have a time getting anything

down her. I had to fuss at her to get a yogurt smoothie down her. I

strained it to make sure there was no pieces in it. The Doctor

mentioned it could be trapped food but it smells like when my son

had his adenoids removed, like rotting flesh. Plus her nose still

keeps bleeding and she said she tastes it as it seems to come from

her nose or the back of her throat. Her throat still is sore from

the surgery too.

One of the things I found that helped in my recovery was getting out

to walk. I started walking in the hospital the night of surgery, and

when I got home, I would go with my husband to the grocery store or

drugstore (that's after a few days of major crashing, though, as we

were both super tired when I got home from hospital). One day it was

nice enough to go down by the bay in our city and watch the boats. I

took it quite slowly, of course. I didn't have a lot of stamina, so

I made sure there were places to stop & sit. After a few weeks, we

started window shopping in Toronto, looking at garden stuff,

furniture, antiques, etc.

Couldn't you take her out clothes shopping or something?

I had Angelina's lips too. Doesn't last (thankfully!!!!!!) : )

> She was suppose to be using Saline in her nose and didn't really

do this until today. Yes it actually is still bleeding at times. In

fact this morning I went into check on her and she had a trickle of

blood down her lip. Sometimes it is actual drips and she uses a

boatload of Q-tips. It isn't great amounts of blood though.

>

> She is moody and seems to not want to leave her room or her bed. I

hope this is not going to hurt her in the long run. She doesn't

really sleep just watches TV all day. She is an artist and

sometimes likes to play video games but hasn't picked any of this

back up yet.

looks like under her swollen face. She is still so cute to me. She

says she has Angelina Jolie's lips and that she must be missing

them.

She is in hiding. She wants no one to see her. Will not go to church or

anywhere. I asked her if she wanted to go School Shopping and she looked at me

like I had lost my mind.

Have no idea what to do about that.

Hi Anita,

I was just wondering how old your daughter is. I'm 18 and had my

surgery on July 6th. It is hard to have a positive attitude sometimes

but it is really necessary! I didn't want to see my friends at first

but they came anyway and it was actually really nice to have them

around and I gained confidence about the fact that I didn't actually

look that bad. At least for me, most people just thought I got my

wisdom teeth out and was a little more swollen than most, but no one

really cares or anything. My mom made me this chart where I wrote

down what I drank and the calories it had and my goal was 2300 a day

which kept me really busy but it was good to have a goal to work

towards each day. I don't know if your daughter has AIM (instant

messaging) but it is a good way to keep in touch with friends and you

just type back and forth so she doesn't have to worry about talking if

that is an issue. Actually she can even IM me and talk if she wanted

to, I'll give you my screen name if she would want to do that.

Anyway, I really hope that she comes out from hiding because its

really important and would probably heal faster! Good luck with the

rest of the recovery.

haha, I can see why she would feel that way. I went to the OS's office

for a postup appt 5 days post up (still INCREDIBLY SWOLLEN) and as i

was sitting in the waiting room, i felt this lady's eyes on me like I

was some piece of meat or something. I glanced at her ocassionally

and she was literally staring at me for like 5 mins... so i just

stared at her back and she finally got the point and looked away =)

Anita,

To be honest, it could be rotting flesh, couldn't it? There are so

many incisions made that I'm sure some of the flesh has to die in the

process. Anyways on a more up beat side, I thought the exact same

thing and for the first week and a half or so knew my breath was

killer. It's so hard to clean , and there is old blood and what I

felt a continual slime. As she gets feeling better and heals it will

go away. Also, maybe I shouldn't have, but I got some Listerine

strips to pop one in my mouth right before my OS' visits so I didn't

knock him on the ground dead with my breath. After all, I still need

him for my pre-op work. LOL.

Hi Val,

She was in better spirits yesterday. Her brother made a face at her and she

misunderstood his expression and it hurt her feelings until I made him explain.

He told her that he didn't know she would look different after the surgery and

he was thinking he doesn't like change and that she didn't look like his sister.

She is so cute even with the puffy lips and she does look different, but I

expected that.

As for friends. She has quite a great deal of friends but for some reason no

one has called but one. I am surprised that her best friend hasn't called once.

She doesn't get on her computer, she doesn't do anything but watch TV. I

managed to get her to eat more yesterday and she is feeling better.

She has started using the saline in her nose and it has really cut the smell way

down. She uses it the minute she tastes that taste. I barely smell it now and

it was awful. She keeps her mouth very clean too.

Thank you for your offer of chatting with her. I am hoping that she will soon

want to do more.

Anita,

After I had my surgery I was in hospital for 9 days and my four year old little

brother came into visit when I was 8 days post op he walked passed my bed and

told my mum " sarah's not here we've come to the worng place " my mum pointed to

me and said here she is. He ran in the opposite direction and said that I wasn't

his sister and I looked funny. I was very upset to hear him say that but I have

had many other surgeries and they didn't change the way I looked and he wasn't

expecting to see a swollen, bruised, miserable person sat in the bed.

I was in hospital for 9 days after my surgery and when I came home I didn't want

to see anyone or go out anywhere, the only place I would go was to the hospitals

appts and to the Dr's surgery. I went to my aunties house when I was 3 weeks 2

days post op and she only lives a few seconds away it felt like it was miles

away and I could feel people staring at me which made it worse.

I had the bed taste in my mouth too with some stronger antibiotics and keeping

my mouth cleaner it soon went away

Sounds like she's afraid of being seen by someone she knows. Is

there another town or city you could go to?

A hat and sunglasses can disguise a person, and it wouldn't look out

of place this time of year. Also makeup can be used to hide bruises.

Hang in there - this phase can't last forever.

Gang,

I'm up to 1/2 tsp. of yogurt almost every day and doing fine -- except

for bad breath. I have a bad " milk " taste that I assume emanates from

my sinuses. Feedback?

Could very well be yeast/candida/fungal. I see that's in your history. Maybe not

fully under control yet?

I definitely have a sinus infection that is candida-based. Doctors

tend to scoff at me when I tell them this but are never able to come

up with another explanation for the itching and white discharge.

Since I've been taking LDN and echinacea, I've noticed it starting to

die off (yay!). I always thought that a neti pot with an antifungal

like GSE would be helpful but have never tried it because I can't cope

with pouring water up my nose.
