Hi,

My situation is quite a mess and I was hoping for some advice. I had

braces this past year (senior year of college) with the intention of

having surgery this summer, but it was cancelled at the last minute

because of miscommunication between my orthodontist and oral surgeon.

Since the braces were not covered by insurance, that was a lot of

money down the drain.

I've now moved to New York to start a very demanding job in investment

banking, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to handle the rigors of the

job along with the entire orthognastic process. My new

othodontist-oral surgeon duo (I made sure they worked together this

time) have suggested I'll need braces for another year, and also that

I should consider chin and nose surgery as well. They plan on sliding

my lower jaw back and my upper jaw forward.

However, the chin and nose procedures are cosmetic and are not covered

by insurance. Are these procedures worth the substantial cost? After

having spent thousands of dollars on my previous orthodontist and

thousands more for the new one, I'm not sure if I should pay more for

these additional procedures. My nose is already a little broad, so

will the procedure accentuate this facet of my face? Or will the

swelling/broadness only be temporary?

I am at a complete and utter loss of what to do. I would appreciate

any advice on the matter. Please feel free to email me at

vkakodka@.... Thanks so much for your help.
