Hi! We have just joined the group and have an 11 yr. old daughter recently

diagnosed with crohn's in spring of this year. We have been following dr.'s

protocol with meds and she just finished weaning from prednisone. During the

wean we read the BTVC book and started her on the diet. Unfortunately, her

symptoms are returning. We aren't sure if it's from the wean off pred. or

die-off or both?? We are concerned about continuing the diet at this time

because of her weight which is steadily dropping...she is skin and bones. She is

having a hard time developing a taste for some of the foods. Much of the time

she feels so sick and doesn't have an appetite...she also is afraid to eat at

times because it will cause her to run to the bathroom and make her feel sicker.

We are at our wits end, but we don't want to quit something that may make her

well in time!! Her next dr. appt. is tomorrow and I fear what he may

suggest...he doesn't support nutritional therapy, which we are learning is

common with GI drs...he may even blame the diet for her weight loss!! Also, we

are confused about what foods to feed during the initial stages after the intro.

period. We just want her to eat!!! It is so hard to see her health

deteriorating and feeling helpless to stop it! Should we abandon the diet at

this point to get some weight on her, then try again?? From everything the book

teaches this would be a bad idea and there's no guarantee that she could gain

from regular foods because she can't digest it. The dr. may suggest an elemental

diet and we are preparing for this. This is all new to us and we would really

love to hear what others have done or would do. Thanks tremendously!!

Suzanne
