Guest guest
F, thanks a lot for the reply. I feel dumb asking such a question, but the fridge is getting full and with the power shortages here in CA hubby doesn't want to buy a second fridge. Guest guest
, Hi and thanks again for the helpful advice. I didn't even think about the coffee grinder. Will give it a try as the recipe only calls for a small amount of corn flour. Have a good day. Rhonda in CA
Guest guest
Today I went in the store here and seen that had Instant Carnation Breakfast and it say 0 sugar and carbs, but when I look at the back it say 7g of sugar and I think 12g of carbs, so I guess they don't have the sugar free here. do anyone think that is good for us or not. I may have to drive 2 hours to Little Rock, AR to get it. Thanks
Guest guest
Is there a Walmart or Trader Joes close to you? If so check those places out they have Low Carb protein drinks and bars. Ask your store to order in a particular flavor of the Carnation instant Breakfast. Yes the ones that say 0 carbs are the low carb variety, however carnation is doing what other companies are doing, using sugar alcohols and not counting them as carbs on the front of the box. This is allowed by the USDA because in theory most people do not metabolize the carbs in sugar alcohols the same way they do sugars such as table sugar and honey etc. However USDA requires them to be listed as carbs on the label which is why you see 12 carbs. Some people can get away with this and others can't and have the same issues with sugar alcohols as sugar along with a laxative effect in some folks. 8 grams of those carbs are from lactose - milk sugar which is exactly what it says sugar plain and simple. You can get better protein drinks than carnation instant breakfast, but since that was basically the only thing available when this surgery was being developed they still measure everything according to carnation instant breakfasts and usually they have you add more protein. These drinks also contain aspartame which my doctor has seen in his practice has occassionally cause folks to binge and purge. He doesn't subscribe to the common side effects of aspartame which can be read about all over the web (with no basis is real scientific fact), but he has found that a few of his patients are sensitive to aspartame and they eat until they throw up and then begin again so he suggests his patients avoid it for the first few months at least. It doesn't seem to bother me however. anne > Today I went in the store here and seen that had Instant Carnation > Breakfast and it say 0 sugar and carbs, but when I look at the back > it say 7g of sugar and I think 12g of carbs, so I guess they don't > have the sugar free here. do anyone think that is good for us or > not.
