Guest guest
I would demand to have the STARband remade, free of charge. It isn't fitting your son correctly if he is having these problems. > > Hi my son is nine months old and has had a STAR band for three weeks now. We have had one issue after another, rashes, hot spots, tenderness behind his ears and neck, one of his ears swelling up, it has been aweful. We keep going back for adjustments but it doesn't seem to be helping. We just found out about cranial tech but already paid full price for the STAR band as our insurance wouldn't cover it. We are going to see an osteopathic cranial sacral therapist for the second time this week. Does anyone out there have any advice for us? >
Guest guest
Hello, Our daughter also got her STARband at 9 months and has been wearing it for a month. The only problem we have had is the helmet rotates a little on her head, but that is normal because of the abnormal head shape. We believe that our positive experience with her helmet is because of the orthotist. We go to Trish at CIRS in Oakland CA and she is amazing. She is very experienced and has done hundreds of STARbands. I am not sure how experienced your orthotist is but that may be contributing to your issues. A few hotspots are normal during the adjustment period. And some arise because their heads are growing. The major thing to worry about is skin breakdown because of the rubbing. It sounds like you are also a little upset about getting the STARband instead of the DOCband. I stress that your concerns are not due to the type of band and please don't regret your choice. You will find many people on here that say the success of the band is due to the orthotist not the name brand. I admire you for making the best choice by getting a band and advocating for your son. My advice would be to take your orthotist's experience into account and research a little about how the adjustments work. Discuss the adjustments with your orthotist about and why/why not they are doing them. What our your son's measurements? Where do you go for his helmet? I hope some of this has helped, Zoey 9.5 months STARband since 1/4/10 > > Hi my son is nine months old and has had a STAR band for three weeks now. Guest guest
If it doesn't fit properly after 3 wks, then it doesn't fit properly. Ask them to make a new band. They should do it without charging you. Sometimes they don't get a good scan, or the baby grows too much before the band is ready. They need to make it right. It has happened with other parents too,and as far as I know they are generally willing to make a 2nd band for free. -christine sydney, 4 yrs, starband grad > > Hi my son is nine months old and has had a STAR band for three weeks now. Guest guest
Which location are you going through? And what have they told you? Is there anyone else that you can work with at this location? Are there any other locations that can adjust helmet for you? Perhaps the problem is with the person doing the adjustment and not the helmet.
Guest guest
They said my son had a 6.4% measurement and normal is 3.5%. They said he has a pretty mild case but because he has some frontal bosing on his forehead on his left side we decided to do the helmet. We are going to scope down by childrens hospital in San Diego. > > > > Hi my son is nine months old and has had a STAR band for three weeks now. Guest guest
We are going to scope in San Diego. Their most experienced ortho just left the company right when we started going there, I think I might go to another scope office for a second opinion. > > Which location are you going through?
