Guest guest
I am a college student and in April received a student worker position at the conference center at my school. Upon interviewing I was honest and explained the STRONG possibility of me having surgery during the summer in which I would be out of work for 4-6 weeks. They thanked me for being up front and honest and hired me for 15-20 hours per week. Well, I was gone after surgery for 5 weeks due to dizziness and other side effects. When I returned to work, my boss and her assistant began haggling me and telling me that I was not 100% and not to come back until I could give 110%. Well, most of you know that we have setbacks, complications, and possible sickness from time to time and especially after surgery we need to let our bodies adjust. Recently I have been getting migraines, mostly in the last three weeks. I went to work with these migraines and worked 25 hours per week. They wanted more and more and more. I kept going to work with horrible migraines because the animosity was apparent since my surgery. Has this happened to anyone else? Due to my complications with migraines, tmj, and grinding my teeth I was forced to have emergency appointments thursday and friday, thus missing work due to excrutiating pain. My bosses said that they need to rethink my position because I missed two days with doctors notes. I am going to work tomorrow morning for the big GRILL session. Has anyone had this situation at work? How did you resolve it? I had an evaluation last week and they told me that I am efficient, accurate, and more productive than any other student worker they have ever had. They told me that since I had surgery that it was a problem and was reflected in my evaluation. I know that this is just a part-time job and that I am a student and need to really remain focused on my health and school, I am just frustrated and scared to face them tomorrow. I guess that I just need to be reassured that I did nothing wrong by missing work for surgery and emergency appointments. Anyone with comments please help me and my nerves!
