Hi, Pammi... I just splurged and got myself a belly dancing kit... It has a

video, cd, hip scarf... I figure it's a great cardiovascular workout,

creative (which I prefer when exercising, treadmills are too boring for me

wheras nature hikes are perfect)... THey have free shipping when the code

'REDBOOK is used... I got the info in this month's (I think it may have been

the December issue but it's available now) REBBOOK. They have two different

sets for 39.95/each (free shipping with that code)....

Can't wait to try it out! I really want to work on my abdominal muscles and

hope this will help tone and be fun, too...Wish I could say my dh would be

interested in such a surprise but he seemed pretty non-plussed when I

mentioned it to him. Sigh.

I think any man would enjoy seeing his significant other bellydance.. I'm not

doing it because requires desperate measures (although it appears he

might), but because I think it's exotic, fun and sensual myself. I only wish

my dh had similar lines of thinking... he just might... I haven't tried it

yet! LOL It's more like I'm doing it DESPITE the fact he's a cold fish, not

because of it.

I'm sure your dh will love your new 'alter ego'. :):)

I honestly think when WE feel good about ourselves and start indulging our

own sense of fun and sensuality, whether by learning to belly dance or, as

in my case, wearing a sexy teddy (just because it FEELS GOOD!), that joy

can't help but be communicated to and " warm up " those we're with.

My best to you-you're a true role model!

This is true - it all starts with us... I think part of me was lost when I

had children, gained more weight, etc. I was always a sensual person but I'm

married to someone who TOTALLY relied on me for that --- In other words, It

was always my initiative, my eroticism, etc. that got things going. When I

tuckered out, the entire sex thing just went out the window.

ACtually, I don't mind being the 'leader' but I also want to follow... This

is something I think my husband is going to have to learn to do... It's only

fair!

  • 2 years later...

I was on a walking schedule the day I came home from the hospital. I was to

walk like 10 minute twice a day for a week then 15 minutes twice a week and so

on. I would build myself up to 20 minutes twice a day probably by the 4th

week. I was allowed to go to the gym, treadmill and workout equipment by week

6. Did find I probably should have waited a little longer on the equipment

though, but my physical trainer just gave me light duty stuff til I could work

my

way up. Just take your time and don't push yourself.

Shauna, I may have replied already; can't remember for sure. Just in case (gotta live up to my name, right?), you might think about water exercise--swimming, water aerobics & just plain water walking. For a few years that was the only way I could get any exercise at all. I couldn't walk far without having to stop & sit, or even lie down; couldn't ride a bike because of my balance problems. So I did the water exercise as much as possible. But I really missed being outside, especially in the fall. Then I found out about recumbent trikes! Took me a year to save enough money to buy one. I've had it 4 years now & just love it. Nothing hurts when I ride it, it's almost impossible to flip, it's great fun & attracts a lot of conversation. So I ride my trike, do arm & leg exercises in my hot tub & get to a pool when possible. It's a compromise, a big compromise, from the days of running, playing volleyball, jazzercise, being extremely active, but chronic disease is all about compromise. The thing is, you don't want to cause damage that may further hinder your ability to exercise. Do you have access to a sports medicine clinic that could evaluate you & make some recommendations? Good luck, and I'm so glad that your eyes are okay & things are going so well!

I am so behind, but good to hear from you and so glad you are doing better, you are taking your calcium right? MSM might help with your joint pain, I just buy it at any store. Walking is good, even if it hurts, I can't walk very fast or far, but I really have been pushing myself on the treadmill, Usually I can only go about 15 mins. but been pushing for 30 mins, I don't get higher then level 2, and when the legs give I go down to level 1 and keep going to 30 mins., I try to do this 3 times a week, as pushing to 30, causes more pain in my legs, but my Neuro said if you don't use it you will lose it, also I would love to lose weight, been struggling with that ever since coming off the Pred. about 6 years ago. sorry to go on, happy to hear from you, keep up the good work. MarlaJust one day at a time, That's all God ask of us. for there never really is a tomorrow, as that too is just today:)

Hi everyone,

Not on here that much these days. I do try to go back and read the emails from everyone. But I am happy to say I am feeling pretty good these day. I am currently suffering from some symptoms perhaps caused by long term use of the prednisone. Since I have been feeling a little better, I've been trying to workout more at least 4 to 5 times a week. I have noticed that my bones aren't as strong as they should be.

At the moment, I am experiencing some pain from walking daily in my hips, knees and in my foot since uping the exercise. Some days I try to just ride the bike or skip the walking and just do my silver sneakers classes if the pain is more that day.

I love to walk now because it helps with the stiffness and overall health. I'm going to keep going while I am able and just rest when it becomes a little overwhelming.

I went to my eye doctor last week and he said my iritis and uevitis is gone for now and I don't have to come back for a year unless I notice some changes.

I am very thankful to God that I am doing as well as I am at the moment and I wish you all have at least a few days that are pain-free.
