Clare,If she does an elemental style drink, she will be getting lots of sugar and I wouldn't recommend them. To help her with weight, she should try more fats if she can tolerate them, especially lots of butter in blended soups, and cut way down on wheat, potatoes, sugar, milk, etc, but I am not sure she should cut them out entirely right now. It will cause too much of a die off. Maybe she could do what Marilyn did in the beginning by giving up one food at a time -- I would suggest she begin by cutting out bread/pasta and milk, or whatever illegal that constitutes the largest part of her diet. Epsom salt baths will help as well because it helps with the gut and dealing with the toxins from die off. She might try taking bromelain for inflamation if she can tolerate it -- some

can't because it causes stomach pain on an empty stomach, which is how it must be taken. Fish oil high in Omega 3 will help as well with inflammation. I am certain that it is the stress of the wedding that is contributing to her flare, so helping her to relax/reduce anxiety will definitely help, although I know that this is easy to say and harder to do! Cutting out caffeine completely will help rest her adrenal glands so that they can be less stressed and allow her to cope better. Something my husband would do to avoid 'accidents' was to eat smaller meals, but more frequently and when necessary he wouldn't eat at all, only drink (diluted) juice (or maybe broth only) to keep blood sugar levels up, so that he would have less of a need to go at an inconvenient time.AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Fri, June 18, 2010 9:19:48 AMSubject: Advice please!

I'm a UK member and have never posted on this group before although I read your daily digests with interest. My daughter has UC and has been following SCD for a while. A friend of hers also has UC but has never bothered with diet - she's managed to cope with whatever medication she is on (but not sure what that is). This friend is getting married in 3 weeks and has just started a flare. She's asked for advice on diet to see if it will help calm things down before the wedding. Obviously starting SCD now is probably not the best idea. My feeling would be to try and cut out the obvious foods such as wheat, rice, potatoes etc and try to stick to easily digestible foods such as soups and stewed apples to give the gut a break. She is apparently quite thin already and doesn't want to lose any weight because it will affect the fit of her wedding dress. Although I know it's not the advice you would normally give but would you think that

supplementing with elemental style drinks would be an idea to prevent further weight loss? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
