Guest guest
I am 28 years old and had surgery (upper and lower) 2 weeks ago. I am doing good at this point. I got unwired today!! I was wired for 13 days and now wear rubber bands (one on each side). Everything depends on your surgeon. You might be wired shut or you might be rubber banded after surgery. You can expect some discomfort/pain for the first couple weeks. You might also swell and bruise due to the surgery. Eating is no fun. You have to be on an all liquid diet (Ensure, Boost, etc.). About 3 to 4 weeks after surgery, your ortho work will resume. That is about all I can tell you at this point because that is where I am in my case. Others may be able to give you more info. > I'm having orthognathic surgery June 16th on my lower jaw to correct a > minor shift in my bite that my orthodontist recommended I get. Guest guest
Actually, I was all geared up for a liquid diet, but my surgeon's office told me I won't have to do liquids (except first 24 hours), just soft foods (scrambled eggs, etc.). I'm having lower advancement July 8 and will be splinted and banded, not wired. Also, I highly recommend going under Links and reading the sites, especially this one: http://www.geocities.com/orthognathicinfo/. Hope that helps.
