Guest guest
Beth It took me about that long in braces before I was ready. The Ortho likes to get your bite as good as possible before the surgery so that when your done with the surgery you won't have to be in braces too much longer. Being 6 weeks post-op, I am ready to have my braces off, but I think I will still need to have them on for about 6 more months. I will find out on Monday. > Just wondering how many of you where told it would take 12 months to > get ready for surgery and it shorter? and how much shorter? Guest guest
Beth, the timeline for preparing for jaw surgery will depend on the state of your teeth. I was told it would take 6 months and I was ready after 4 months but for other reasons decided to wait for the 6 month mark to do the surgery. Other people have been in braces from anywhere between 8 months to 3 years. So it all depends on how much your teeth need to be moved to allign them for surgery and how cooperative your teeth are. My teeth move very easily thanks to 10 years of prior orthodontics when I was younger so they are accustomed to moving but someone else who may never have had braces may take longer. There's no exact answer unfortunately. Sara > Just wondering how many of you where told it would take 12 months to > get ready for surgery and it shorter? and how much shorter?
