Guest guest
Sheila: I've had at least 9 endoscopies since my wls almost four years ago (don't ask). Find a gastroenterologist who is familiar with bypass patients and you should be fine with the endoscopy. The first time my docs scoped me, they did it with my surgeon present so he can direct them through my new " plumbing " so to speak. The hematologist just wants to make sure that you're not bleeding internally from a possible ulcer or any colonic pathologies. He could and should be more delicate with his patients and suggesting that he is concerned of a future law suit if they find later on down the road that you may have colon cancer is unprofessional to say the least. It is standard procedure however to perform these two tests when a patient develops anemia. They do want to rule out possible malignancies and such, however he could have approached the topic in a totally different manner. Find another hematologist who will listen to you. The one I go to asks me questions all the time and has decided that once my blood counts get back to normal that I will go for monthly infusions so I will never become that anemic again. Three years of taking oral iron and my counts at year two started to drop, by year three they were in the toilet. So he understands and has suggested treating me prophylactically to avoid future anemia. Good luck to you. Regina
