Guest guest
Where can you buy this rice filled cloth bag and can it be reused for a few weeks? Thanks, Steve cfarero <no_reply > wrote: Devyn I was told not to use ice after 48 hours. I have purchased a rice filled cloth bag that I warm up in the microwave, and then I place that on my jaw. The heat increases blood flow to the area, and helps speed up the healing. That might work better for you than the ice. As for the numbness, it could be a while. With each passing week, you should feel that it gets a little better, but it could be a long time before you get complete feeling back. You may always have a small patch of numbness. If it is really bothering you, you should talk to your OS about it. > Hey My name is Devyn and I'm a 20 year old male from Tampa FL. I had my > operation on may 11th 2005 on my upper and lower jaw. Guest guest
Hi Ann, There are a few UK members here, and I'm sure they'll introduce themselves. I was about 3 years older than you when I had my surgery 3 years ago, also upper/lower and genio. I also couldn't open more than a finger's width initially. It's not just the bands preventing you, I'll bet that your muscles are not yet used to the move that the surgeon made, and that you'll have a ways to go yet in opening fully. I found that when I removed the bands, for eating, I was able to open a bit further, but I would always seem to hit what felt like a brick wall - no further! Gentle stretches when the bands were removed was all I did for the first few months, my ortho didn't want me doing anything more rigorous. After about three months, he did give me some resistance exercises to do, and I was able to move quickly to a more normal opening. According to my surgeon, I'm now able to open more than pre- op, although it doesn't feel like that to me. Happy healing! > Hello my name is Ann I am 44 and 26 days post op after having both my > top and bottom jaw done. > I live in the uk in Chessington Surrey. > At the moment I am off fluids and on toddler food! Guest guest
Hi everyone! Just wanted to say hello, my name is Nikki and I am post op 5 days right now, and I have been really informed through all of the emails. I just saw my OS today and he told me he would have me unwired in 3 weeks, I'm recovering faster than usual. so that is good news, because the first couple days were torturous! It's not really the pain, but mostly the being wired shut and the post nasal drip that occurred (I had both upper and lower) but now it's mostly gone. I cannot wait until the 3 weeks are over! Anyhow, thanks for all of the support and good luck to all of you who are still in the process. it's a journey that is worth the wait. Cheers!
