Guest guest
Three weeks ago I contacted a nutritionist. I was frustrated that the 6 months of peeling, cooking, cooking, and pureeing was getting me nowhere. Especially the incredible amount of time that it all took. Not that I complained. Ever. I felt like if that was what needed to get done, well then, that's what I'm going to (and did) do. Nothing happened. I tried all suggestions. Still nothing. The only way I could go was to force milk of magnesia down my throat. Still no complaints from me. I'm very determined. But I did contact a nutritionist in WI and this is what she said. Every day eat 1 1/2 c nuts, 1/2 c beans at each meal, 64 oz of water, 5 veggie servings, 1 fruit, no scents, no honey, no dairy, 1 fruit. I was scared. I've been faithful to SCD and still am. That was my caveat to listen to her...she couldn't get me to eat something "illegal". Well after 3 weeks I can say that I've had nicer BMs than I've had ever. She explained that the beans bind with the waste and the nuts have the oil that helps it out. I must have been lacking both of these my whole life. I'm true to SCD but this has been a life saver. The constipation has gone and I go every day. Multiple times a day. Thought I'd share in case it could help someone else.

If you think about it, what the nutritionist told you is implicit in the parameters of SCD. Elaine's constipation protocol includes prune nectar (a fruit) and SCD muffins (made with nut flour) and a regular diet of SCD-legal foods, including cooked and peeled vegetables. Also, although beans are typically called " advanced, " some people do well with them, which is why, although things like the Pecanbread stages can be helpful, they are not a Rule. Clearly, you're a person who does well with properly prepared beans. What was necessary was to find the combination of foods which works for YOUR gut. That's why Elaine never put menus or lists of what to eat when in BTVC. Because everyone is different. That's the beauty of SCD -- it's infinitely customizable. That's also the frustration of SCD, doing all the careful testing to figure out what works for you. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
