I have a few questions for those who have been unwired. I had had

upper and lower surgery. I had an under bite and it was moved back and

the upper jaw was moved forward. I experienced very little pain and i

am please with the outcome. I have a little numbness in the upper jaw

and upper lip. Basically it feels a little weird but not unbearable.

Doc says I should get the feeling back in about 6 month. It has been 9

weeks since surgery. I will say that family has been very supportive

before and after. Some friends have different reactions.

1. I noticed that most people always say, " You look really different. "

I guess I am used to my new look by now. Very few people get past

the, " you look different " and say, " you look better " .

2. Many people wonder why I did it. " Were you in pain " . Actually I was

not in pain, but I did have a pretty bad under bite.

3. Others say, " So it was cosmetic surgery? " I do not think of this as

cosmetic surgery. Although I look better, I believe I look normal. I'm

just trying to get back to looking normal.

4. What kind of support or reactions did you receive after words?

5. What about jaw exercises? My surgeon never mentioned them to me.

6. I'm eating pretty normal again although much slower. I also can not

open my mouth very wide. How has your eating been?

7. Weight gain. I like the new look. I lost 15lbs before surgery and

15 lbs after so I'm 30 thinner since February. I do not want to gain

weight but I'm afraid after the freedom of eating again I will. I am

exercising and trying to watch the diet but I'm sure the weight gain

is inevitable.
