Guest guest
Jae, I'm not sure what exactly you mean by slipped disk, but the big problem I have with my joint is that the disk slides forward when I start opening my jaw, then gets caught. Most of the time I can " pop " my joint over the edge of the disk to completely open up my mouth past that point (or close it again), but occasionally the disk and the joint do not go back together and my jaw ends up locking up. I find this happens most frequently when I am stressed and therefore tensing up my jaw muscles, or when I eat something particularly demanding on those muscles like beef jerkey (a big no-no for me now!). What helps me in that situation is to gently massage my jaw muscles until they loosen up, or use a warm compress. My surgeon suggested I push my lower jaw to the left (it's the right joint that locks), and that should get it over the edge, too. My left joint used to be the problem, but my surgeon said I likely wore down the cartilage enough to functionally slide over it without popping anymore... it just took some time. I'm sorry to hear you are having problems... keep us updated on how you are doing! Kate > Hey, > > I was wondering if anyone here has experienced a slipped disc in their > TMJ.
