Guest guest Posted May 25, 2005 Report Share Posted May 25, 2005 Thanks for all that. Despite my yearnest efforts to inform myself to the maximum extent I wasn't aware about the role two sets of bands have on the muscles. I will for sure ask my surgeon if i will need to have that done as well. How are you feeling by the way? Are you able to go out and do activities like you were before the surgery? Reason i ask is next monday i'm hoping to walk into work all over again. It'll be exactly 2 weeks tomorrow, but today i feel pretty good. Most of the swelling has gone down. The biggest difficulty is providing enough fuel to get me through the day. Its days like this when my quick metabolism can be seen as a vice more than a virtue. Anyway. . keep up the good recovery. i'm looking forward to reading you posts

& nbsp;

derrick

& gt;From: cfarero & lt;no_reply & gt;
& gt;Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport
& gt;To: orthognathicsurgerysupport
& gt;Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] Re: Week 4 Post -Op Ceck Up
& gt;Date: Wed, 25 May 2005 21:09:08 -0000
& gt;
& gt;Derrick
& gt;
& gt;I had my lower done. He said the wiring allows for the bone to heal
& gt;without moving the entire jaw back. Then the tight banding gives
& gt;some & quot;power & quot; back to the muscles in the joint. With the wiring, the
& gt;muscles can't pull your jaw back, but with the banding, they should
& gt;be able to see within 24 hours whether or not the muscles are going
& gt;to pull the jaw back. Then he said they move to a lighter band to
& gt;give the muscles even more power over the situation, and to see if
& gt;they are going to cooperate. If there is no, or minimal movement
& gt;after the 2 sets of banding, then the splint comes out, and it is
& gt;determined that all has gone as expected. I'll keep you posted on
& gt;how this whole process goes for me.
& gt;
& gt;
& gt;
& gt;
& gt; & gt; . . you had a lower down is the correct? i'm wondering
& gt;whether i
& gt; & gt; will require the banding as well. supposedly my OS also used
& gt;internal
& gt; & gt; fixation using screws, so i don't know if that does anything in
& gt;terms of
& gt; & gt; needing extra banding at the end of a wiring season. mmm. ..?
& gt; & gt;
& gt; & gt; & lt;html & gt; & lt;DIV & gt; & lt;FONT face= & quot;Lucida Handwriting, Cursive & quot;
& gt; & gt; color=#000099 & gt; & lt;/FONT & gt; & amp;nbsp; & lt;/DIV & gt;
& gt; & gt; & lt;DIV & gt; & lt;FONT face= & quot;Lucida Handwriting, Cursive & quot;
& gt; & gt; color=#000099 & gt;derrick & lt;/FONT & gt; & lt;/DIV & gt;
& gt; & gt; & lt;DIV & gt;
& gt; & gt; & lt;P & gt; & lt;IMG height=75
& gt; & gt;
& gt;src= & quot;http://www.educ.sfu.ca/pdp/admissions/content/general_info\ rmatio
& gt;n/images/sfu.jpg & quot;
& gt; & gt; width=425 align=bottom & gt; & lt;/P & gt; & lt;/DIV & gt; & lt;/html & gt;
& gt; & gt;
& gt; & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;From: cfarero
& gt; & gt; no_reply & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;Reply-To:
& gt; & gt; orthognathicsurgerysupport & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;To:
& gt; & gt; orthognathicsurgerysupport & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;Subject:
& gt;[Ort\ hognathic
& gt; & gt; Surgery Support ] Week 4 Post -Op Ceck Up & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;Date: Wed, 25
& gt;May 2005
& gt; & gt; 16:55:04 -0000 & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;I went for my 4 week check up
& gt;yesterday, and
& gt; & gt; my OS said that & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;everything still looks good. I am scheduled
& gt;for June
& gt; & gt; 12th to get & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;unwired. I will then be tightly banded for a
& gt;week. Then I
& gt; & gt; will be & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;loosely banded for another week to make sure that I
& gt;am not
& gt; & gt; having any & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;relapse. He didn't say what would happen if
& gt;there were any
& gt; & gt; movement, & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;but I am hoping that we don't even have to have
& gt;that
& gt; & gt; discussion! & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;Provided that all goes well, I will then have
& gt;my splint
& gt; & gt; removed, and & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;he said that I should go to my OD the same day
& gt;that I
& gt; & gt; get my splint & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt;removed. Hopefully it will all be down hill
& gt;from
& gt; & gt; there. & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp;gt; & lt;br & gt; & amp\ ;gt; & lt;br & gt;
& gt;
& gt;
Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
