I am not on any bp meds, beta <blockers, calcium channel blockers, etc. I have been having this problem for <about 6 weeks now. Hi , I am a habitual lurker in here, but had to respond to this. I'm 19months post open RNY, and have lost just over 200#. I have had postural hypotension the entire postop course, beginning 6 weeks after surgery. At first it was blamed on 'rapid fluid shifts' and rapid weight loss, but it has become clear that something else must be happening. At 19months I still lose 2-3# per month but that's not enough to cause 4-5 syncopal episodes per day. I have not been able to get any answers from the surgeon or internists. My personal thoughts are that it has something to do with my large ventral hernia and large pannus. When I stand up too fast, its like the blood volume in my abd and pannus doesn't 'stand up' with me - similar to the feeling you get on an elevator that's set too fast. I think that I can't sustain a good venous return pressure to the heart and brain because of the loose abd muscles and skin, so that makes my blood pressure drop and causes dizziness for a few seconds. I'm praying that the hernia repair and lower body lift will help correct these symptoms. Anybody else had similar experiences postop? (and if you hear anything good, please forward the emails!) thanks, ellen in TN
