Guest guest
, thanks for the information. I just checked on line to see where they will be giving flu shots. In our area, Raley's a grocery store will give them for $20. If you don't have insurance or are on Part B of medicare, they will do it for free. I'm sure there are other places in different areas that do the same thing.
Guest guest
I had to " weigh In " on the flu shot topic. While I am in general healthier since the WLS and losing >120# in regards to my Blood pressure etc. My white blood cell count has been extremely low since surgery. ( this is called neutropenia) MY Immune system is in fact severly compromised since having surgery. My surgery doc says that low WBC's are " very " common in post WLS patients. He doesn't know why. My PCP has other WLS patients in her practice and says she sees the same thing. Also she doesn't know why.I probably would not be aware of my low count if I didn't Look them up myself every time I have them drawn. I am an RN so I know what my numbers mean. I ABSOLUTELY DO GET A SHOT AS SHOULD ANYONE WITH A COMPRIMISED IMMUNE SYSTEM. As far as children getting Flu shots, yes Children can and do get flu shots. They are highly recommended for kids with any compromise to their immune system. Also kids with asthma, any other pulmonary diseases, or chronic illness are sometimes recommended to get a flu shot. Some kids are in daycare also get the flu shots.
Guest guest
I was able to get a flu shot. I got it from my son's allergist whom I have known for 10 years. It is the 1st time he has ever given me one. I had to become his patient to be able to get one, but he knows of my medical history and made an exception for me. Perhaps you can look to an allergist to see if they have one available. I have spoken with the doctor and the flu mist is NOT available to those with chronic diseases.
