Alas.... that is why I adore my baked beans!! I had never thought of them

that way though -- as " candy " ... but I guess you're right. I don't think I can

get rid of them from my life though ... at least they have more fiber than

chocolate!

Reba,

I like KFC, but I avoid the beans because they are, I believe, the

vegetable equivalent of fudge. Loaded with sugar. And any of those

beans give me gas, bad. It's possible you just had some kind of

cramp from all of that. I eat the original at KFC, and the closest

to a vegetable I think they have which is coleslaw, but heaven knows

it's probably loaded with sugar as well.

That meal doesn't sound tummy friendly to me, either. Sorry you were

on the road when it happened.

I eat KFC (and Popeye's) chicken all the time without any problems. But I avoid

most of the side dishes. I dumped on KFC cole slaw once because it has too much

sugar in it (for me). I suspect what happened was a major dumping session. If

you ask at any of the fast food places, they will give you a nutritional

breakdown of all their foods so you can see what's in them. It's my

understanding that they are required by law to have that information available,

although sometimes a particular location might not.

Re the gallbladder - post-op problems or suspected or potential problems are why

my doctor routinely removes at the time of the WLS. Saves lots of time and

trouble eliminating that as the problem of any pain later.

After 2 years I'm also voting for the major dumping. Just the

thought of all that fat sends my gut into a convulsion.

Try it again and see if the same thing happens. If so you know it's

a major dump.

Reba,

I am not sure it is your gallbladder. I had mine removed when I

had my wls. Sometimes I get that gut wrenching pain and it ends up being

gas. It can last a while and often happens after eating greasy foods

and/or beans.

Reba........A few weeks ago I had several similar episodes. The first two

only lasted about 5-10 minutes but the 3rd was 45 minutes and I thought I

was going to DIE!!! I was on the ground writhing thinking it was a heart

attack (runs in the family real bad) well, two days and a dye stress test

later found out it wasn't the heart. Had the ultrasound and found out that

my gallbladder has " multiple " stones. I know they weren't there before

surgery (was tested for them.) The problem is that my PCP wants it out, but

when they were testing the also found that my spleen is enlarged. I don't

want them messing around in there with my spleen enlarged. And I have been

so unbelievable stressed lately I just don't feel " up " for another surgery.

So I just sit here wondering " when " the next attack will come and avoiding

peanut butter :) the suspected culprit! But I KNEW it wasn't dumping,

unfortunately I have experienced that enough to know the

difference................. P>

First, for what my opinion is worth....(suffered with gall bladder

malfunctioning for 12 years...that is a story in itself!)....sounds like a

gall bladder attack. Second....find a new PCP. I wouldn't put up with that

kind of attitude!

Have you given thought to using homeopathic remedies to dissolve the stones?

Reba,

I think you will be hardpressed to find a regular doc that knows this

surgery and it's after effects. This operation is a mystery I found to some

docs.

As long as your tests come out ok, I would assume it's gas. I know the

feeling you described and although I haven't been to the doc with these

episodes, I think mine are just gas. I think I will start paying attn to

what I'm eating within a day of this feeling and see if there is a

correlation. I also am going to watch how fast I eat. Heard it can induce

gas as well and I know sometimes I'm not always the slowest eater.

Sherry,

I get a very similar pain, in the exact same spot, like under the belly

button in the very middle of my body. I can't wait to hear what anyone has

to say on this.

Sometimes I hurt so bad that I can't stand to have anything tight around

my waist, undies nothing, hurts to walk or lay down or breath just hurts.

Same with you?

I work for gastroenterologists and have to tell you that this is the

season for gallbladder attacks. I do more reports on people with

gallbladder problems from November - January than any other time of

year. People eating foods higher in fat, grease, etc. and in general

just eating more due to socializing and such. First attack I had was on

Christmas day a few years ago. Christmas eve ate stuffed peppers at a

friend's house. Didn't have another attack until Christmas Day the

following year. Ate stuffed peppers again. This time the pain went on

for a months on and off and finally had my gallbladder out in February

of 1999 and my wls in October of the same year.

For any of you who still have their gallbladders and are known to have

" sludge " and are not taking Actigal on a regular basis, watch what you

eat during the holiday season. If a sonogram is not definitive, the

doctor may order a HIDA scan with ejection fraction. That measures how

the gallbladder is functioning. My sonogram wasn't bad, my HIDA scan

sent me right to the hospital.

Good luck and be well.

Joanie,

Same with the pain under my breast bone. Can't stand anythng

touching it. Had my pants & drawers down around my hips...riding

down the highway. Glad the truck is higher off the road than my

car, LOL! Some light pain continues in this area off and on. Still

is bothered by restrictive clothing. Not as bad by a long shot, but

still there. Do you have nausea? I did. Wanted to throw up but

have not done that but once since surgery almost 4 yrs ago. Hope we

find out what is going on.

Best to Ya!

Make your doctor do an ultrasound on your gall bladder!!!! I went through 5

years of pain, losing all my teeth from bile reflux, and 8 doctors before I

finally got one to do one. I did not have gallstones, but my gall bladder

was enlarged, and had polyps on it. It came out in July. I have not had a

single incidence of reflux, dumping, nothing since. If I knew then, what I

know now....<sigh>

No Reba no nausea or throw up, just pain. I should have mentioned that I

had my gall bladder out when I had surgery, duh! But this pain is by my

belly button. Some of the time my stomach looks lopsided, sticks out more

on the right side. My gastro doc said it isn't a hernia, so don't know what

it is. I was supposed to go in and have this horrible sounding test done

an abdominal scan. The night before you have to drink barium, and then

again an hour before the test. I chickened out and cancelled it, figure I

can live with it. When I talk to the gastro doc he might make me do it

still.

I bet yours is your gall bladder, that pain can be just awful and it's sure

not uncommon to have it happen when a person losses weight.

Good luck!

Dear Reba,

Since I live in Georgia, and have had the opportunity to partake of KFC/s

greasy and rich cuisine, I can relate to your experience. I have not found any

place that I tolerate fried chicken in any form . I really think that the reason

I dont tolerate chicken fried out is the marinades used before they bread and

fry the chicken. I have been told that many places also put sugar into the

breading. The south is especially bad about having sugar added to foods that are

cooked.. like corn , turnips, etc..

I hope you are feeling better. Keep us posted.

  • 7 years later...

La, gallbladder pain is usually in the upper right abdomen, often going through to the back. Nausea & lightheadedness is often associated with it. I had symptoms for a couple of years, initially occasional not-too-severe pain, usually after eating something really cheesy. Other fats didn't seem to trigger it so much. I thought it was my gallbladder, but wasn't too keen on surgery. I pretty much ignored it until I had a few bad spells--severe nausea, cold sweats, and REALLY bad pain. I only had one stone, but it was good sized & sat right in the common bile duct. Apparently, it would shift around, so that I could go weeks without symptoms. But after the official diagnosis I went ahead & had it out, with laparascopic surgery. Had surgery on Monday, went home that night & was back to work on Thursday. This was before any sarc symptoms; don't know how I would have done then. I recommend getting it checked out. If you do have GB disease (can be stones, sludge, or other problems) & you have a severe attack with infection, you might need the old-time surgery, which is much more invasive & painful that the lap surgery. They can just do an ultrasound to check it out.

I am having sharp pains in my abdomen right under my ribcage. After doing some on line research, I am thinking that this is a gallbladder issue. Does prednisone cause gallbladder problems?

Thanks Rose for your help. I was doing some research and thought it could possibly be my gallbladder as well. But I had an ultra sound around four months ago and they said everything was fine. Like you the pain lasted for about a week and now it has subsided. I will see if the pain comes back and then go to the doctor. I am hoping this was just gas. LOL. Thank you sooo much for responding in detail.

This was before any sarc symptoms; don't know how I would have done

then. I recommend getting it checked out. If you do have GB disease (can be stones, sludge, or other problems) & you have a severe attack with infection, you might need the old-time surgery, which is much more invasive & painful that the lap surgery. They can just do an ultrasound to check it out.
