Kathleen,

At the time I inquired I was quoted $135.00 for a 12 hour shift at Mt

Sinai. I did not get the help and I should have, as my surgery was on

Friday and my care was quite less than some people received. I was told I

could arrange for the care on the day of my surgery at the nurses desk on the

2nd floor.

I found some archive info recommending DS patients have HELP after

surgery. Does anyone have info on costs for " companion " help? Did

anyone find help not needed? I wonder if the hospital is as busy as

normal after the 9/11 incident.

Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.

Kathleen,

Please if you only take one peice of advice get a companion.

The nurses at Mt Sinai are busy, but to be honest they really do not

care about their patients. You arrange your companion every day. So if

you feel that after a day or two that you do not need a companion you

do not have to arrange one for the next day. If you have family or

friends who are going to be there 16 hours a day who can help you get

around and see to it that you have what you need, and are prepared to

get the nurses to do what you need then you can forego a companion but

that would be the only way that I would suggest not getting a

companion. You can also arrange for your companion in smaller

shift's I think as little as 4 hours.
