Asian women have been eating soy products in the form of Tofu their whole lives with no adverse effects. I'm menopausal and I drink soymilk every day. I need to see scientific studies. Guest guest
I hear a lot about soy on these lists because we are always looking for good protein sources. But I think a lot of people don't realize that soy is not good for a lot of people. If you are hypothyroid, or on the verge of being hypothyroid, soy can knock out your thyroid production even further. It can also have a bad effect on menopausal women. Here is a website that has a lot of good info on the BAD effects of soy & soy protein http://www.hormonedivas.com/reports/soy.htm I don't hear much about it, so thought I'd just add that info here. -Sherry (Lake Marcel, WA) Duodenal Switch Surgery Feb. 2, 2001 self-pay 5'5 " / 276 pounds / 34 years old Lost 9 pounds in pre-op weight loss efforts Have lost 135 pounds since surgery! Guest guest
I asked my endocrinologist about this recently, and his response was, " Who told you THAT???? " I told him, & his response was, " Well, I do agree that if you take your thyroid medicine with soy milk its action can be reduced, but it doesn't affect it when taken/eaten several hours apart. " He's pretty up to date, but I still worry that he might be wrong. Guest guest
Judie- Not really.. the thyroid is a gland in your neck controlling your metabolism... if its working too slow you are hypothyroid- not enough hormone. The parathyroid is a little gland that perches sort of on top of the thyroid, & controlls serum calcium via a release of a hormone that takes calcium from bones to make up for deficiencies. Their only similarity is their location in the body. Hugs, Liane > hypothyroid>>>>> > > what is hypothyroid??
