Guest guest
Hi , Sorry you are having such a hard time. never had issues with nursing while adjusting to the brace but she has never had a bottle so maybe she didn't know she had any choice. LOL Is he uncomfortable in the nursing position? I found it awkward to hold while in the brace at first and ended up supporting her leg which stuck up with a blanket under it or holding it with my hand since it seemed uncomfortable for her, although I have to say that she didn't seem bothered while nursing. She did take some time to adjust to the brace in other ways and it seemed to make her mad at times. That passed, though, and now after three months in it, she doesn't act like it makes one bit of difference to her if she is in it or not. I hope this is a passing stage for him. Maybe you could try nursing him while he is almost asleep? Or while you are walking around? That sometimes works with a " nursing strike " , which is what he is exhibiting, even if it is induced by the brace. The idea is to change what you are doing when nursing to get the babies to give in and nurse. Good luck to you! Carol and , 10-27-05, bcf, s 18/7 new to the brace Hi, My 10 week old son, , just got his brace (Dobbs bar with AFOs) this past Thursday morning. Needless to say it has been an exhausting two days. Things are improving and he's even been smiling at us today. My question is, have any of you experienced your child refusing to nurse when s/he starting wearing the brace? Jimmy has been a great nurser, but has refused to do so since Thursday. He will (thankfully) take a bottle just fine. Thank you, (Jimmy, 2/9/06 bilateral club feet)
Guest guest
My daughter had a really hard time nursing when she first got the brace. She does not take a bottle so it didnt last too long:) She ended up prefering to nurse while I was laying down. She still has a hard time getting comfortable if I am sitting up and she has been in the Dobbs brace for 2 months now. **** Mom to Lilah 12/21/05 lcf dobbs brace 23/7 Page wrote: Hi, My 10 week old son, , just got his brace (Dobbs bar with AFOs) this past Thursday morning. Guest guest
, Did stop nursing all together, or just while in the brace? I think Dobbs usually recomends one hour a day out of the brace (prefering 4- 15 min sessions). I always nursed during those times. It usually ran over 15 min, but as soon as she was done I would put her back in the brace. Also, (someone else may have already mentioned) just try some new positions so that you can both be more comfortable. I loved laying down on the bed nursing, this position worked well with the brace on. It also allowed a much needed cat nap for me. I was able to nurse for 8 mos. with this child- it just got to be too dificult working full time and trying to pump to keep up my supply. After a few weeks of nursing only before and after work, I finally dried up. You made an awsome choice to breast feed, don't get discouraged. You will find somthing that works. You may want to start a feeding with a bottle, burp, then offer breast. Maybe he will do better once he " gets going " with his meal. You will both be more relaxed if he is not starving and feeling your stress. Guest guest
Bottles are easier to suck from than the breast. Some babies like that, being lazy little critters (joking). I'd try different positions and the use of pillows to bring the baby up to your breast - different things like that. Have you tried to give him Tylanol any? Hope you get it figured out. s. new to the brace Hi, My 10 week old son, , just got his brace (Dobbs bar with AFOs) this past Thursday morning. Needless to say it has been an exhausting two days.
