Guest guest
hi, i am glad you survived the hurricane, i have been watching the news and seeing how horrible it was, at least you didn't get much damage, too bad others can't say the same. and a good thing that tree didn't decide to come the other way!! keep us posted on how things go,steph Kacey171 wrote:We have survived yet another hurricane here, but this was a weird one! We did not lose power, but most people in our area did and are still out of power almost 24 hours later (more than 1 million people do not have power now). However, our phones are not working (neither land line nor cell phones). Since I did not lose power, I still have cable, hence the ability to communicate via email/internet (the only source of communication I have right now!). We did not have damage to our house. My next door neighbor, however, had 5 large trees down, once of which was blocking their front door. There is horrible flooding south of my house, but not so bad right here. Also, an overpass on an expressway collapsed not too far from my house (1600 tons of concrete), but luckily there were no cars around when it happened. We have more than 1500 traffic lights out & over 200 power lines down. Hard to believe this was only a category 1 hurricane! This one took everyone by surprise, because it came so quickly & nobody did much preparation, thinking that a category 1 hurricane could cause so much damage. Also, typically when hurricanes hit land, wind speed decreases. This was not the case this time around & with a slow moving hurricane without decreasing wind speed, it caused a lot of damage! Sorry to ramble, but I am bored out of my mind stuck in the house (still having squalls on & off). Kim C.

Guest guest
Kim, I forgot you live in Florida. I'm so happy you're okay. Please keep us posted on what's happening. Weird how you got no damage to your house, but next door did. Funny how mother nature works huh! Tammy Kacey171 wrote: We have survived yet another hurricane here, but this was a weird one! Guest guest
Kim, Glad to hear you are okay. My mother and her husband had planned to get out of Florida this year to avoid the hurricanes, but were not really planning on leaving yet. (They live in Jensen Beach.) When they suddenly heard about Katrina, they packed up and are here in NJ now, heading up to the Catskills. They lost so much last year because they were in the direct lines of two of the hurricanes. Glad to hear you are okay. A friend of mine just moved to West Palm and she was just amazed at watching the storms. I don't think I'd be. I'd be scared out of my mind. Guest guest
We lived in Fl last year when the 4 hurricanes hit, we lost 2 big trees. As I was watching katrina on TV it was strange not being there but relieved too. Glad you made it through it and good luck if any more come. My family all lives in Orlando and they just got some rain. mom to Tor rss 5 and 2 Hurricane Katrina We have survived yet another hurricane here, but this was a weird one! Guest guest
Kim, You sure are a long way from here to drive and flying is expensive. The mail and UPS are delivering on schedule as far as I know. Although, it's so gratifying to deliver the donations yourself. It really makes you feel like you did something. We have donated to three shelters in this area two on our own, it really makes you feel good to do something for so many that can't help themselves right now. Tammy kim chirichella wrote: i will CERTIANLY mention you and continue to use you--how is mail/ups in your area as far as shipping--maybe i will fly or drive directly to you. I know that alot of you are wanting to help with donations to this area for the evacuees from New Orleans and the surrounding areas. I have been in contact with three schools in this area and they are each desperately needing monetary funds. Each of the schools have received 50+ evacuees and alot of the children only have sandels for shoes and no uniforms. Our schools here are uniform code and the money will help to get these children much needed clothes, jackets, shoes, belts and school supplies. If you would like to donate money you can send a check to me and I will get it to the schools. Please make the checks out to either- Waller Elementary schools, Rusheon Middle School, or Bossier High School. In the memo put " Hurricane Katrina relief victims " . If you would rather send cloths or shoes. That would be appreciated also. Shoe sizes needed are 3-7, belts(blue, black or brown, uniform shirts polo style navy blue, hunter green, or white size child xs - size 10-12. Jackets need to be navy blue. You can also call me at for any other questions. There are several shelters here and I can get in contact with them for anyone wanting to donate.
