Our nutritionist explained that " if your child isn't gaining weight, and all other reasons have been ruled out, then the child isn't getting enough calories. " But yes, your question is correct -- it does seem that RSS and short SGA children need MORE calories than normally expected for their size, in order to grow. And our kids need to catch-up (meaning CLIMB the growth curve percentiles) not just maintain their current curve. Re your son's weight gain so far. 1 pound in 3 months is actually quite good. Isn't Kedhar 3 years or older? I can't recall. But kids 3 years or older typically gain 2-3 pounds a year. Which would be 1/2-2/3 pound every 3 months -- so 1 pound would mean there is some catch-up gain in that!!! That is good news!!!
