I have had one BAD bought since. I think the chemistry of things does aggravate the hemmeroids, but I have had no problems now that I am very preventative---I take a hot bath every morning. I got a script from my doctor that I use if there is ANY soreness at all. Never not made it to the toilet except once very early preop when I thought it was gas and urged it a little. I will never give gas help again unless I am sitting on a toilet and I have never not made it to the toilet since. Guest guest
You surely know how to write your subject lines: I was sucked in right away when I read " disgusting questions! " OK, I'm only a week post-op and have had many different kinds of poops: some totally liquid, some semi-firm, others actually formed like cat shit but still very soft. Wait, I guess you didn't really ask about that in particular. Anyway, I've been pooping quite a bit more than usual and I have had no trouble with my, uh, " opening " becoming raw. But my husband just this evening (OK, I admit it: I don't wipe my own ass ALL the time just yet, but I can do it with a good deal of laparoscopic-incision pain) as he was " helping " me said: " Hey, Honey, I wonder if you're gonna get 'roids with all this wiping. " I told him that at this point, I wasn't sore or raw in the least. So, as of this time, I'm OK. Regarding gas: yeah, I have more gas than I used to, but any post-op cramping or pain associated with it is not frequent and, in fact, is not the same kind of sharp gas pains that I would have prior to surgery. I'll tell you a little secret here: my husband is the gassiest person I know, so I'm loving the fact that I am having extremely hilarious fart wars with him! Guest guest
Hey I am not a good person to judge by since I have had IBS for a very long time.....and when I say IBS I mean the full spectrum from severly constipated to the diarrhea runs that would not stop.....Sometimes I get gas sometimes I get cramps same as before surgery.....I have noticed that if I eat anything that is carb " heavy " that I get WICKED gas........I at the stage where I go in the morning..and that is it.....very rarely in the evening again....Now I just have to train myself to go earlier in the morning so I am not so late to work everyday! If anyone has any advice for that I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Yes, yes, no, and, well, I've been concerned that I might not but I always have. I had severe stomach cramping right after surgery -- that was the only noticeable pain I had. Morphine (in copious doses) took care of that. LOL I also had about 2-3 periods of feeling nauseous within the first hours after surgery, got IV drugs for that and hadn't felt nauesous since that... I didn't experience bad gas pains until a few weeks post-op.... Then, it wasn't frequent. I can count the times I've had bad gas on one had and I'm now 10 months post-op. I don't think I'm the norm, though. I walked a lot before the surgery and also quite a bit after the surgery. I think this *may have* helped with the gas and getting things moving. As far as diahhrea goes, I had my first bm (and it was totally watery) at 3 days post-op. My stools were watery, but always controllable, for at least the first few weeks post-op. My bms became pretty regular a few weeks out -- I had one in the early a.m. and then one upon waking in the a.m. Then, it was down to 1-2 in the a.m. upon waking. Now, I usually have 1-2 in the a.m. upon waking and that's it, unless I'm particularly stressed. Then, I may have one in the afternoon or evening on top of that. I suffer from IBS/spastic colon and I can honestly say this condition has been greatly improved since the surgery. It's almost as if my body has adjusted much better to this arrangement. I was constipated and didn't experience diahhrea with IBS as a pre-op, though. Others may have different experiences. Hope this helps! all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt. Sinai/NYC 10 months post-op and still feelin' fabu preop: 307 lbs/bmi 45 now: 203 lbs (getting lower... Guest guest
Seven months post-op, and most of those problems have, thankfully, vanished. Flagyl taken throughout Month 5 seems to have made quite a difference as far as gas and paint-stripping odors are concerned. And, my guess is that over time my common channel has risen to the occasion and has taken on additional functionality. --Steve (formerly the oil slick and gas king) At 2:29 AM +0000 11/28/01, evershade1@... wrote: >I know most of you have heard and answered all the questions, but I >am obsessing about the gas/diarrehea part after surgery. Guest guest
I noticed that my morning BMs were fairly well correlated with the time I ate my breakfast. So I started doing that earlier and thus had my gut empty prior to time to leave for work. Now at 10+ months out I still generally go in the morning but the urgency is gone. Back to about the same bathroom habits as I was pre op /Seattle > > Hey ..Now I just have to train myself to go earlier in the morning so I am not so late to work everyday! Guest guest
Thanks , My bm's are always in the morning but they seem to fall within a 2 1/2 hour range which is really frustrating.......because I need to get to work early......I am going to see if there is a correlation btwn early eating and early evacuating!
