Mt. Sinai Guest Residence Inn is actually quite easy. It is 3

blocks from Dr. H's office (across the street from the hospital) and

1/2 block from Central Park. And within one block there is a

children's playground at Central Park. There is a market nearby,

and several restaurants including one buffet deli. The standard

room with a king bed is $169/night, and it includes a HUGE room with

full furnished kitchen, TV, etc. So it allows the younger ones to

run around the room a lot, plus you can get breakfast for them

easily in the morning. It isn't fancy, mind you. More like a mini

studio apartment than a hotel. We used to stay at the Excelsior

Hotel, across from the Natural History Museum on the upper west

side, but now we have found it easier to stay at Mt. Sinai's

Residence. We then take the train, bus or taxi to places we want to

see.

Toys R Us at Times Square has a ferris wheel INSIDE, and all kinds

of things to look at. FAO Shwartz is fun but for a 1 year old, I

think Toys R Us may be better.

Definitely bring a lightweight collapsible stroller. No one uses

car seats, incredibly enough, in taxis. My husband made me bring

the full on car seat until was FIVE in NY -- he didn't

understand how hard it was to deal with , the car seat, the

suitcase, etc.....

Thank you Jodie! Sounds like the Toys R Us store is the place to go!

I forgot about the tree in R. Center - perfect idea! Thanks so much!

Debbie - I'm going next month - and haven't even booked the flight

or the hotel yet! LOL! Guess I'm procrastinating a bit - I don't

like traveling somewhere new. I'll let you know which hotel we stay

at, etc. after the fact.

Inga - thanks. You are so sweet. I'm trying to decide if I should

fly or take the train. I'm leaning towards the train - I want to

drop-off my 3 1/2 yr old to my cousin in Washington DC - I figured

she could pick him up at the airport - then move on from there.

I've been begging my husband to go with me as I really think this is

an extremely important appointment and considering he doesn't have

as much of a clue about all of this as he thinks he does - I think

it would definately be a benefit to him. He's only been at his job

about 7 months - so, I feel guilty asking him to take time off (he

took off a week for our oldest son (15) when he came to visit just

last month. So....we'll see what he does. I thought the train

would be fun for the boys. Then they could get up, walk around -

I'm sure I'll be chasing them! It's a six hour train ride - so, I'm

not sure. I'll check Expedia though and see what they have to

offer. Thanks for the info!

We got booked for Dec 5th at 8:30 am. We're hoping (I'm going to

bring my mom with me for help...my husband is staying back with my 4

yr old) to fly into LaGuardia on Saturday evening....have Sunday to

figure out where the medical building is and sightsee, Monday am is

the appointment, and then fly home early Tuesday. I had wondered,

too, about flying back home that night after the appointment but I

didn't know how long the appointment would last and didn't want to

feel rushed.
