Well, we are in Iowa City, and will e going home tomorrow...yay!

We received some excellent news...our three week old has mild

clubfoot on the left, and metatarsal adductus on the right...only

requiring two casts before bracing! Has anyone else had so few casts?

Even though it was such a mild case, I still think we made the right

decision to get Dr. Ponseti's opinion...meeting him alone was almost

worth the trip! :)

My cast question deals with...poop!! Are there any diapers that work

better than others when it comes to the casts? Ben's keep leaking and

getting poop all over the cotton lining peeking out from the top of

his casts. Is there anything you can do to keep this from happening??

Thanks, all!

We had this problem also. I used to pull the soiled cotton padding out, and put

a piece of Saran Wrap in there. They get a little sweaty sometimes, but it keeps

it protected if you can tuck it in there far enough.

We had the same problem when Aleksander was in casts. We had good

luck with Target diapers. But we used the Supreme version of them,

and they don't make them anymore.

We also took some of my husband's socks and cut off the tops of them

and put the sock rings around the tops of the casts. They helped

keep the poop out of the casts, and are disposable (or you can wash

them).

Hi. Congratulations with the casting. We have also had good luck

with Target diapers. I put those sticky cotton pads on the top of

the casts and changed them when they got dirty from leaky diapers.

Lily was one of those babies that rarely pooped (I think she was

making up for her brother) but I always thought about trying one of

those diaper covers for cloth diapers or even swim diaper covers (I

saw them at the Target at Coralville Mall if you are still in Iowa

City).

Best of luck.

hey, that is great news!

our doctor gave us a little roll of the padding. so when her casts

got soiled, i would pull the soiled part out and just add more

padding and stuff it in so that cast wouldn't rub against her skin.

I cut up tube socks and tucked them around the tops of the casts.

- Huggies Supremes worked best for us, but I really think it

all depends on the baby's shape. What worked for others was horrible

for us (leaking wise). I ended up trying 6 different kinds until I

found what worked. Best thing is to change as soon as they go- I

usually carried him into his room as he was still going. Other than

that I pulled the soiled gauze out and replaced it with new gauze

that I just bought off the shelf. Good luck!

Great news on your baby! You definitely did the right choice in

choosing Dr. Ponseti. Mild case or not, it's such a relief to have

someone so qualified help your baby.

Glad to hear things went so well! As for the casts, we bought

women's white socks, and put them over the casts to help protect

them - not to say some didn't leak through on to the casts, but they

definitely helped keep them cleaner. Hope that helps.
